I wouldn't really call this growing pains. We have serious issues.
Every team has weaknesses. We lack on base guys but we have a full roster of professional baseball players who have the ability to tweak their approach and refocus their talents if they put their minds to it. I firmly believe that.

I still maintain that power is our problem. Yes, we have 3 low (very low) OBP guys in our everyday lineup, but that is somewhat offset by having 4-5 good OBP in our lineup. The problem is, Heyward, BJ, CJ, and Simmons are not hitting for any power this year, when in the past they have. On top of that, Freeman hasn't hit for much power in the past couple of months and Gattis hasn't hit much since coming back from injury. With normal power numbers, we are probably averaging at least another run per game and have a few more wins.

I'm just crossing my fingers that the law of averages are just waiting to correct themselves and we go on a tear these last two months of the season. Call me an optimist, I guess.

Yeah, that's pretty much it.

Reading my thoughts. How rude.

I think our problem is the lack of timely hitting. We are leaving tons of men on base so it has nothing to do with the OBP if none of them are being knocked in anyways. We just can't seem to string together hits and score multiple runs without a home run. And since we haven't been hitting any home runs we haven't been able to score anything. How many times have we got a man in scoring position with no outs and he is stranded there, it seems like at least once a game this happens. We are just in a huge funk right now and sooner or later we will break out of it. The hits and the home runs will return and we will go on a long winning streak and then get cold and lose some more. This is just a really streaky offense and we don't have enough consistent hitters to carry the team.

umm...you're all right. Team lacks OBP skills, can't play small ball worth a damn, doesn't hit with RISP and (at least lately) has no power. Seriously, did we hit a HR on the road trip? One, that I can think of.

And we don't do any of the other stuff (like pitch) that well to make it up.
