Has Gattis been a disappointment?

Just reading the boards it seems like there are more than a few people who are wanting to trade Gattis this off season. He has been injured quite a bit this year and it doesn't seem like he has been as good as last year.

But when I looked at the stats in roughly the same amount of games played and at bats this year his stats are almost identical if not better than last years.

2013: .243/.291/.480 and OPS .771 with 21 hrs, 65 rbis, 21 BBs and 81 SOs

2014: .270/.325/.507 and OPS .832 with 22 hrs, 52 rbis, 22 BBs and 94 SOs

So the only real category he hasn't improved is RBI. But also I can't remember how many clutch home runs and game winning hits he had last season especially in pinch hit situations. Either way I think Gattis can be the best offensive catcher in the game when healthy and I think the Braves should try to keep him as long as they can. So I guess my main point was why are people wanting to trade one of our best offensive players when we already struggle to score runs.

Dude has been great other than taking the year off due to strep ****ing throat. Did he blow Satan or something?

How can he blow someone that doesn't exist?

Yeah, I'd guess it wasn't strep. Probably ebola or something.

Gattis has been awesome, and I hate that he'll probably be traded.

Gattis was on fire right before the break. Had like a 20 game hitting steak and his average was damn close to .300 at the time of injury. He hasn't looked the same since he came back and now the throat thing.

Maybe Gattis was a recipient of Mike Minor's urethra thing?

I don't REALLY think he had oral sex with Satan.

He has been better this season, esp. before the injury which I am convinced he was brought back too quickly from (and it wouldn't be a first for a Braves catcher as Mac was rushed back in the past and struggled a lot that year). Further, Gattis isn't our problem but one of our bright spots despite what childish and ignorant posters on here say (such as the ever childish poster on here that calls him a "pussy" and other such nonsense regularly in game threads).

PS: If our solution is to trade Gattis while real problems remain here (Fredi, BJ, and CJ namely) then I may need to take up heavy drinking. :)

He needs to go. He's not that good defensively and he can't stay healthy. Need to hope this illness is not serious (career ending) and get him to the AL ASAP. Honestly I hope it's not relapse or something else coming back from his past to bite him caused by reckless teen behavior.

He hasn't been a disappointment. Great power hitter with some weaknesses (particularly on defense). He's done better offensively than I expected. He does seem to get nicked up a bunch.

Gattis has been fine. We should shop he or Bethancourt around and ship whichever one we get the best return for. UNLESS we can't extend Jason. If we can't extend Jason then stick Gattis in LF, move Justin to RF and Jason in CF. Big hit to our OF defense but it's a quick fix to improve our offense.

Gattis won't stay healthy so we need a solid backup.

720 OPS in the second half which is concerning....overall his numbers are were I expected them to be. He should be traded though, he's a DH.

It is in the nature of the position to miss some playing time. Bethancourt missed time last year with a hamstring injury and a broken hand that required surgery.

I'd hope we keep Gattis. We need to see what he can do with a full healthy season (fingers crossed). He's had two weirdly similar seasons -- scorching hot bat as the All-Star Break nears, talk of him going, then he gets injured just before the break, comes back a few weeks later and just looks absolutely lost at the plate for the rest of the year. Frustrating the potential we saw pre-injury. We need that big hulking threat in the middle of our line-up though. And I don't get the complaints about his defense. He seems fine to me. And I've been very pleasantly surprised at the number of low-scoring games he catches, which seems to me to be the end goal anyway.

No way, he's been fantastic. A lot of people seem to be on board with trading a guy that's been nothing short of awesome. I don't understand how strep has been so rough for him, but he's been good.

That being said, i'd trade him for a very good haul. If we can get a solid starting pitcher, a great outfielder and prospect(s) out of it, then sure. It's all about what helps the team the most reason; but getting rid of him isn't exactly ideal.

It's mainly because he's horrible defensively, no matter where you play him. He belongs in the AL, his CS% is at 21% per ESPN...the only regular catchers below that are....d'Arnaud/Salty/AJ and Norris.
