So tell me that MLB isn't fixed

I don't dislike Jeter at all. I think he's overrated, but he was a great player. Look at his numbers.
I think Chipper was better, though.

Derek Jeter is possibly the most overrated player of modern times. No MVP...no batting titles, and only one Series title after the nucleus of players that started the late 90s dynasty started going away. If he had played on any other other than the Yankees he is only a borderline HOFer. Good player, but a long way from being great not even in Chipper's class. The only stat mark he has that Chipper doesn't is 3000 hits and we all know Chipper's legs failed him or he would have surpassed 3000 with ease. Not saying he wasn't good, just that he wasn't all-world.

I take all the bad things I ever said about you.

Jeter somehow manages to be overrated and underrated. I never liked the guy, and always gagged at the phony mystique that surrounded him. After a certain point, though, I had to look at the numbers and say that the guy was damned good and was going to be a deserving HOFer.

Still, he's Barry Larkin with a worse glove and a little more BA. If Jeter is an all-time great, so is Barry. If Larkin hadn't played on artificial turf for much of his career and missed so much time, he'd probably look even better in comparison.

Jeter's a legit HOFer and beloved by his home fans. I appreciate the guy more in retrospect. Still, he's far from an all-time great.

If MLB was fixed, this would have spurred a Yankees rally to the post season on Jeterian might. Instead, it was a useless win that perhaps did nothing more than lock the O's into second place (3 games back from the Angels)

Exactly. If MLB were fixed for ratings, the Red Sox and the Yankees (especially the Yankees, this year) would be in the postseason - or better yet, they would be the 2 wild card teams. Instead, it will be KC/OAK......yeah, that sounds fixed.

I have always felt this way about Jeter. I'm not saying he's not a HOFer, I am saying he would be just like Murph if he played in KC. He would be considered good not great and would have trouble getting in.

You can't honestly sit here and watch what happened in the 9th inning tonight and say it was fate or whatever you want to call it.

Clesrly you are way too hard headed, so I am not going to do this back and forth though.

You should keep in mind that the people with the power to fix a game result know where you live.

You've drinking the same Kool-Ade as Keith Olbermann. Takes guts to be based in NYC and give the reports he's given.

Typical response from you guys. I don't know why I thought that for once you guys would see things for what they really are.

I am actually disappointed in myself for fooling myself into this way of thinking.

Unless you're Jeter, you can't even have something stuck in your butt without someone writing a book about it.

Derek Jeter has over 3400 hits which is good for 6th all time EVER in the game. How anyone can say he'd be considered just good on another team is just being ridiculous.

I dont care or hate the Yankees but Jeter is a HOF'er.

I cant wait until the season is over so we dont have to hear all this slobbering over him.

Jeter would be a HOF'er with the numbers he has on any team in baseball.

He's one of the best players of all-time and easily in Chipper's class if not better.

I didnt see the 9th but MLB isnt fixed.

NBA is fixed but thats another story.

The whole thing was a bit curious. I had seen some people posting on ESPN saying that the fix was in and I thought they were crazy I had not seen the replay at this point.

However after seeing the replay, please explain to me what the O's were doing. First, 1st base open why do you pitch to Jeter when his run doesn't count you always set up the double play(unless you are FG ie Kemp)Second I have never known Jeter to be a pull hitter that's how he got 3000+ hits. Where was the 2nd baseman were they playing the shift on Jeter that makes if so why. Lastly the right fielder sure didn't seem to be in any hurry to get to the ball and the throw even seemed weak.

I know the whole comeback etc wasn't planned but after watching the replay there were a lot of things that sure make you wonder. Remember Chippers hit in the AlStar game any other game that's not a hit and here any other game one has to think they walk him or the second baseman is in place to catch it if they do pitch to him.

Also it seems I am one of the few people here that likes Jeter and thinks there is no question he is a HOF. Not sure why anyone wouldn't like him or think he is a first ballot HOF.
