Technology Nerd Thread

Had my LG G3 for a few weeks now. Really enjoying. Impressed with battery, especially considering screen size.

Hate to admit it but.... I'm underwhelmed by IOS 8. To be fair, I'm running it on the 4s., but it feels like the same stuff as the last 4 years. The 6's price tag for 64GB seems steep too.

I'm not backing down from my anti droid advertising sermon, but ......I'm bored.

Why does the 6 only have an 8mp camera again? Does the human eye not see the diff? I've never played with anything else, so I have no idea.

I like the Note series as I want a bigger phone. Would I regret going with the Note III instead of this years model? Price would be the main concern.

Serve me up some crow I can't resist.

Camera MP has nothing to do with photo quality and everything to do with size. iPhone regularly scores as well as the Galaxy line in camera tests normally. A few exceptions of course, lik ewhen you move to a giant size (20x30 and larger) you start to notice pixilation. The big improvement in the iPhone 6's camera if you're a shaky hand like myself is OIS. SO I think compared to older iphones the 6 is a noticable improvement.

As far as what phone to go with. I'd rank the best for a large screen as Note 4/LG G3 then Note 3. Note 3 isn't bad by any stretch, but the G3 is a superior device. To compare what you gain with the note 4, camera jumps up 3 megapixels and OIS which is a huge win. It will run either the latest Samsung Exynos octacore processor or at least a Snapdragon 805. and it's Screen resolution is bumped up a bit. But it will cost 299 on contract when it launches. The G3 loses something when you don't have the stylus specific controls of the Note, but not that much. It's screen is slightly smaller than the note 3 but it's body is much smaller. And the Price is massive. Compare them on amazon who has the G3 right now as 49.99 on upgrade for Verizon, 149.99 for the Note 3. Not even close to worth it IMO.

What do you guys put these bigger phones in? In a plastic cellular cowboy clip? In your man purse? In the cargo pocket of your camo shorts? I don't get it.

They don't really work in and out of normal pockets.

Biggest misconception ever. I have the S4, but have played with the Note tons. It fits in my jeans/works clothes/or casual shorts very easily. I could see women having more issues though

Well thats a 5 inch display, not like some of the bigguns out now. I just don't get the functionality of taking it with you (insert stupid tech watch arguement here).

Personally I wear scrubs at work and just about any phone will fit in the front pocket. I do wonder how a larger phone would fit in my jeans, but I usually have the phone out to capture pics and video as nature photography is my secret hobby.

Camera+ and TangledFX are my fave IOS photo apps, but last I checked they weren't on android. What do you guys use to touch up your photos? The camera on the 4s takes very bland photos.

Thanks for the details Z.

IMO iOS 8 has added a slew of good updates. They can't completely reinvent the OS every year. Here is a great list of the changes

Its not all about the MP for cameras, the sensor size is more important. 8MP for the small size of sensor that mobile phones have is a perfect middle ground. Adding more MP is nothing but a spec attention grab. All it would do for that small of a sensor would make the images larger in file size. How many people are really going to be printing these pictures anyway. 8mp with 300ppi would be just fine up to about 11x14 size

There are new features, but it looks almost exactly the same. I just think Apple could have tried to be more creative in at least the design. The plus side is my phone always works. Always, which is awesome. In the 3 years I've had my 4s I've done a hard shutdown maybe 3 times.

I've owned all three versions of the Note and will be buying the Note 4 whenever it comes out. Honestly, at this point, I don't see how anybody could use anything smaller/less powerful. Once you go phablet, you can't go back. I've also considered the Xperia Z Ultra, if that's any indication of how little the footprint of a larger phone has bothered me. I don't use a case though (get SquareTrade).

RE: iOS -- yes, it's stable, but boring as ****. :eusa_dance:

Apple makes a high quality camera, but there's basically a negligible differnece between all of the flagships. Motorola is probably the only one lagging. LG and Samsung have excellent cameras as well. HTC has some of the more interesting camera tech, but it's not quite there.

So after about 5 days of use I really dig the Moto 360. It works well, it's yet to crap out on me mid day (today I started about 7am and I'm still over 40% battery) It isn't life changing but it's helped me manage my phone better. It's worked so far ok for working out. Since I washed my fitbit one I hadn't been tracking my steps and this has helped. It also tracks my rowing as steps too so that's kind of convenient. Some day when I'm off I'll play with the ambient light sensor and see if it works better for the inconvenience of charging more.

Yesterday I busted my earbuds while rowing, so today I went in to pick up a pair of motorola buds. I had been planning on saving up my LG points from when I worked for a reseller to get the LG buds but this forced my hand, figured why waste 10 bucks or so on some ****ty buds to save up for LG Tone+

First I realize now that I own way too much motorola stuff. All my mobile tech stuff is Motorola, Moto X, Moto 360, Buds, even still have my busted Xoom. Second I started using them and I was very happy. Solid range (was able to walk to my bedroom and have little interference. Sound quality is very nice. Listening to my Brendan O'Brien remixed Ten and it sounds excellent. Easy to access play/pause, skip/restart, and volume keys. Why I bought these is because I love bud headphones for working out but as someone who's 6'3/4 and a very long torso they've always been a pain for me. These give me the buds without the wire running to my phone. Even for a thick neck like me they're not very noticeable and comfortable. And lastly I'm excited I can still use my Moto 360 in conjunction. Not that I have a need to skip on my moto 360 but it's an option still.

Bending iphones? Is this legit or overblown? Either way it's helped me decide to avoid them till further notice.

Sadly, I can't seem to get into my Verizon account via Amazon, so I'm not sure what will happen next. Other than more waiting.
