Braves Trade Deadline Rumors

Let's be real. Headley is 30 next season and to date has put up one "star" caliber season.

Look where he plays half his games. Even with the slow start this year with the injury, his OPS+ is 107. Last year 145. year before 120. His OPS on the road for his career is .820. Last year his OPS on the road was .937. 2011 was .864.

And is a plus defender.

So where does his this year and 2011 OPS+ rank in the league for 3B?

So where does his this year and 2011 OPS+ rank in the league for 3B?

Not sure where to find a ranking of OPS+ by position.

using wRC+, he was 10th, ahead of Chipper, Wright, and Zimmerman. In 2012, he was 3rd. in 2013 he's at 16.

And what's wrong with the 3rd Baseman we have now. He's only leading the league in hitting, what else do you want from him.

Well, Headley is a far superior player and could be a cornerstone for the next 3-5 years if you are able to acquire him.

With Downs in the fold for such a reasonable price, could we also target Gregerson? We certainly didn't hurt our stock of our best prospects to add Downs, so we surely have the pieces to make it happen. A pen of Kimbrel, Walden, Downs, Gregerson, Avilan, and 2 of Varvaro/Carpenter/Ayala is solid.

Definitely wouldn't think Wren won't add another pen arm if he can do it without including premium prospects. The Downs deal may be almost as good as the Walden deal was. That deal leaves the pieces in place to add someone like Gregerson AND another SP if Frank's so inclined.

But to keep them we just have to pay them. To get Headley you have to pay him and trade a crap ton of your future.

Understood but if you're getting Headley from last year and the one from July....isn't he worth it?

I'm not sure honestly. Sometimes its better to have a couple of league minimum guys producing slightly above average than one guy producing like a top players at a top salary. Baseball is not a game where one player gets you over the top.

With the market for starting pitching not too encouraging, I think a second trade for a reliever is likely.
