Election Day 2014

I'm happy with the way the elections went tonight. That being said, now these people put into these elected positions, the hard work for them begins and the eyes of the American people will be on them. It is time to stop the partisan politics and bickering that goes on and get things done. Quit the back and forth nonsense and actually work together. Sometimes you have to swallow your pride and compromise. I know I'm probably living in a dreamworld even talking about compromise and working together. But, I get so sick and tired of the nonsense coming out of Washington. Frankly, I see children act better.

Tonight, I talked politics more on this board than I normally do. Mainly because this is an important night in the life of our country. But, this will not be a regular occasion for me. Much like I get tired of elected officials bickering, I can't get into conversations in which the level of respect seems to be less than marginal. I do have strong political beliefs, but I'd rather not engage into a mudslinging contest, which seems to be what talking politics boil down to. I may vote Republican, but I will never degrade someone who votes Democrat. I'm just not that way. I'd rather engage in respectful discussion. Until political talk is on a respectable level (not likely), then my contributions in regular political banter will be minimal at best.

The bottom line is no matter what your political beliefs are, there is one thing we all should agree on: We want the very best for The United States of America.

Agreed, but of course the rub is in how we define "the very best." Many on here would surely disagree with my definition of "best." And if they think pursuing things per my definition is harmful then I'd expect them to oppose me.

That said, you are quite right that the debate can/should be more respectful.

Republicans stalled for the last 6 years. The only tough votes they made was to avoid the debt ceiling. Notice there was no government shutdown fighting this year.. didn't want to look like assholes in an election year.

You stall long enough, eventually the populace will actually believe that it's the other person's fault.

As they say, if you tell a lie long enough, and yell loud enough, eventually people will believe it.

Obama's exact plan in 2008. Executed to perfection.

Becaused he sucked as a president. As a black he failed, making us look bad. When my family is pissed he did nothing for them that is saying something. We still have blacks with no jobs, black who don't want responsibility, even more blacks wanting government handouts. HE knows that carrot will get him the Dems votes, Hillary does as well.

I hate for my kind being beholden to this chain like the slaves in the 1800's. We get ridiculed on TV, on radio, on the internet, blacks are unworking thugs, when they are in the pro's they can't speak perfect English and sound like they were in 6th grade.

That pisses me the eff off.

You don't like numbers. I do.

Numbers are not trending in your party's favor and they've been pretty spot on the last 4 election cycles.

President doesn't get elected twice, despite the fact he's had pretty much zero cooperation from the (R)'s in 6 years, starting with the now new Majority Leader saying his first year his job was to make him a one-term President.

I understand the trends. And this could be an anomaly. Or it could indicate something else. It's worth considering that it might and that your assessment of the past 6 years is well, a bit too homerish.

I'm meh on it. If he went and threw hail mary's for blacks his entire Presidency, he would be spun as the worst President in history. And the race baiting by Limbo and Beck would actually have merit to it.

Then he failed.

What did my race get out of it, when we were the ones who won it for him.

NOT A DAMN THING BUT WORST OFF!!

Obama's only problem was he didn't know the Republican Party and leadership would go into obstruction mode from day 1, on the heels of the worst economic period since the depression.

And he didn't want to work with them from day one. The comment "I won, you didn't so deal with it" is not going to get you any favors.

I like Carson, would vote for him if I had to but Obamas skin color is going to hurt Carson (whom I think doesn't have a chance to win anyway). Obamas failures will leave a bad enough taste in the mouths of enough whites, that they won't vote for another black regardless of Political party.

Tim Scott (r-sc) will have a shot someday because of him being in the south. Big difference between watching a black surgeon on TV going off on Obama and seeing and meeting a black republican face to face on the ground level. Scott would have a much better chance of winning the south than Carson would since Scott lives here.

You gloss over everything so beautifully. The Democrats had full control over everything for two years and when you're ramrodding important pieces of legislation down people's throats without having time to digest it, you're only inviting that obstruction attitude. It's time to face the facts. People are hurting, and they're angry at Washington. That includes both sides.

I don't believe in false equivalency Bedell.

I don't like arguing just to make it "fair and balanced". That type of thinking is why our country is still behind the times in so many issues, especially climate change. There are times for debate, and there are times where giving someone a chance to give an outlandish opinion just to be fair is stupid and a waste.

So, while I appreciate your reach to try and make me empathize with your side of the of the aisle, I know that your party has no real ambitions to fix our country. McConnell has been a true asshole the last 6 years, and if he's the guy we're hoping does a 180 and wants to work with POTUS, I guess I"ll have to wait for 2016 for McConnell to have the shortest Senate Majority Leader title in the history of the Senate.

And he didn't want to work with them from day one. The comment "I won, you didn't so deal with it" is not going to get you any favors.

He directed that to McCain.

And he was elected twice. Instead of it being a referendum on the Republican Party, the GOP spun it as "giving Obama a chance".

You don't overwhelmingly win two Presidential elections if you don't have the backing of the people to try and legislate the policies you want.

Word is blacks aren't voting like they should be. My family didn't. They didn't care. They only cared about presidency. This surprises me living in Illinois. They said so much corruption and not doing anything about our issue in Chicago why should we care?

If this is the prevalent thinking not good for Dems. They might have an issue in 2016 if this is the case. My dad is actually listening to me when I said, what have the Dems done for you, for blacks? Being union I agreed with him for blacks he was like nothing.

I am seriously thinking if Carson want me to be a spokesperson, I would do it, I really would do it to get the black vote to take the chain and collar off the Democrat party of owning us as slaves after 160 years.

Democrats ramrodded it, because the obstructionism began on Day 1.

The GOP got destroyed in 2006 and 2008 in back to back election cycles. Helping the Democrats in 2009 would've mean helping our country get out of the recession faster, which would've been great news for the Dems in 2010 and 2012 and further exposing the GOP for what they were throughout the 2000's. But their strategy was to hold out and stall as long as they could until they could get some power, which they did in 2010 after obstructing for 2 years. They THOUGHT that 2010 would carry them a victory in 2012, as they gambled their entire strategy on going Anti-Obamacare. Well that didn't work, as the President won just as big as he did in 2008 and they kept the Senate. Would've won the house had the GOP not gerrymandered the districts after the 2010 census. So now what do they run on in 2014... Obamacare, ISIS and Ebola. Sounds like a winning strategy to me.

Sav, you know you don't have to take the path of 57. There's still time.

I thank you because of the respect of Carson. You are right, Obama being a Conservative and winning the election was the worst thing that happen to my race.

No black will win for a century because he only catered to his Dem whites and the money he made. He is set for life WITH protection. As soon as he leave the WH he doesn't give a rats ass about our race or country, you can believe that. We blacks have an agenda and if he is like any other, he would believe like me.

Mittens?

A Mormon?

No way in hell he would be elected.

What does that tell you that the white conservatives in the South would only vote for the black guy because he "lives" in the South?
