Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

Again I ask...

Where's the proof that they didn't?

Jason's hurt, what did you expect him to say? He also said that he "wasn't going to speak for Freeman" then went on to say he "wasn't happy at all".

The point is that there isn't one single person posting on this message board that has a clue - whether you hate the trade or are willing to wait to judge it until you see what else happens.

What do you want, the ****ing Nixon tapes?

Jason Heyward, the player in question, said there were no discussions (at all) since Spring Training 2013.

So Heywards $8+ mil and Walden's estimated raise to $3 mil off the books, how much money does this clear up for us?

10-11, i think we have around 20-30 mil to spend.

Add 15 more if JUp is traded.

What they do with that money is anyones guess.

And Hart says his feeling was that they didn't feel there was anything that could be worked out before Jason tested the market. Are you completely unwilling to consider the fact that they're BOTH saying the same thing while trying to keep Heyward from looking like a money-hungry *sshole?

Hart stating that there didn't seem to be an agreement on the horizon says everything that should be said - it just says it without saying "Jason was willing to sign for 8/$180".

Looks a lot like Freddie and Justin and a whole bunch of crap on offense.

Offseason isn't done folks. We have more money to spend now and our pitching has improved. Let's wait and see what we have going into the season before we write off everything.

$20-30 mil is a LOT of room to play around with. Questions is, do they throw in the towel on 2015 by trading Upton, thus clearing $48-58mil (including ugglas money off the books) and make a big splash in the free agent class next offseason?

I simply take it as braves have no faith Heyward will come around offensively and aren't willing to pony up for him.

Also, i believe they value Justin more and now it's realistic that we can keep him.

A silver-lining (or white powdered) from Keith Law (ESPN):

Tyrell Jenkins was the No. 74 prospect for me going into the 2012 season, then shoulder injuries robbed him of much of that season and 2013. But he came back healthy this year and was one of the best prospects in the Arizona Fall League. When I saw him there in October, he was 93-96 mph with a good downhill plane, turning the pitch over quite well even at 95 mph, and generating lots of ground balls. His slider was plus at 83-87 mph, with curveball depth, and actually got sharper into his second and third innings. His changeup was fringy, straight at 86-88 mph, and effective because his delivery of the pitch is close to his fastball delivery, but lacking any life or action.

He's as strong as ever, and his shoulder is the healthiest it has been in more than two years. A former three-sport star who had a football scholarship to Baylor, he repeats his delivery very well and has the aggressiveness you'd expect (and want) to see from a former quarterback. He immediately becomes the Braves' top pitching prospect and should be ready to begin 2015 in Double-A.

That's pretty solid praise from Law. Really curious to see what Jenkins does next year.

I'm sad to see a player like Heyward go, but I'm on board with the approach of trading for young, controllable players given the current state of our organization. I don't love Shelby Miller, but teams aren't exactly trading 4 years of cost-controlled "Clayton Kershaw" production for one year rentals making $9 million.

A couple of other possible silver linings . . .
- Miller is coming off a bad year and Jenkins is just rebounding from injury, so in a sense we were able to "buy low".
- Thus far in his career, Miller has outperformed his peripherals. Some seem to be zeroing in very heavily on his FIP for valuation, and I think that is a slightly pessimistic way to view him as a player.
- Roger McDowell is our pitching coach.
-We net around 11 million on this deal that can be uses to better the organization now and / or in the future.

Spend the money wisely and that's not necessarily true. Heyward's replaceable offensively. Defense is where it hurts.

Where is he going to get replaced at, 2nd? By all accounts this move just puts Gattis in left, Justin in right, and Bethancourt in at catcher. There is no replacement coming except for what we already have.

Outfielders, meh.

TONS of good SP's however.

While it may not have worked out long term I'm very blessed to have played at HOME for the same Organization I was invested in as kid growing up in McDonough, Ga. Played for The Great Bobby Cox, said farewell to a first ballot Hall Of Famer Chipper Jones after an unbelievable career. I made many great friends and became as close as family with most. Thank you for that. Thank you for applauding my effort and passion for the game of baseball. Thank you for acknowledging my love for rockin The "A" on my work hat. Been a pleasure to have called HOME my workplace. As we part ways know that the memories will be carried with me for the rest. Reaching out to say that I won't forget where I'm from and you'll always see me playing the game I love with passion and heart. Knowing and appreciating the fact I had the pleasure of creating heartfelt memories with so many people the past 5 years. Thank you again for your heart, thank you for the motivation and excitement.

THANK YOU for the LOVE

All this time it was Hart that had the Lockhart pictures. Blackmailed JS and BC to make him a GM without being a GM. Then trades off likable players. Revenge from 1995. 20 years later.

Here's a short clip of Jenkins.

Pretty nasty if he can stay healthy.

It's November 17th. A few weeks away from the winter meetings. Let's see what happens the rest of the offseason first. Even with his defensive limitations in LF....having Gattis in the lineup everyday will improve the offense.
