Braves Trade Heyward, Walden to Cardinals for Miller and Tyrell Jenkins

I never saw Griffey in person so its hard for me to gauge but based on what I remember from TV Heyward is considerably bigger than Griffey.

Heyward is taller but Griffey was just thick. Like yeezus said he's way closer to Justin's build.

Junior really looked like a skinny kid his first few years in the bigs. Heyward probably hasn't looked like a skinny kid since he was 9. I don't think it's his workout regimen—I think he's just a big dude. He'll bulk up and slow down

Yup, and that is basically what I've been trying to say.

Heyward is a massive human being.

Heyward is maybe a little bulkier but not much. Not liek say Utley vs Uggla.

Griffey might have gotten fatter as he got older. Heyward is chiseled out of stone. The more he bulks the slower, less agile and less flexible he will become. It has nothing to do with worth ethic as Heyward by all accounts is a crazy hard worker. He is just tremendous.

What does that matter? You don't gamble at a tune of $20M+, 16% of your budget on the numbers that Heyward gives you even if he givens you a bit more than his now sizable track record indicates he will.

What does it matter? It matters a lot. That spot has to be filled. Other holes you made have to be filled. Every player is a gamble. They're going to have to allot money somewhere. I don't know a better plan than hoping Jason really takes that next step, and even if he doesn't and remains the player he is, $20 mil wouldn't be a terrible commitment to a still valuable player.

I guess we'll see what their plan moving forward is, I hope they have a good one.

And a few starting pitchers. Now we have some of the starting pitching covered but have to find some more positional plaeyrs.

I just like the deal because I never felt Jason was going to sign a long term deal here. The money is just too great on the FA market.

I think we could of competed with our current staff but really only needed one more top guy. Now we need a whole new OF. Not to mention we only have one guy on the infield who can be called a "hitter".

I agree partially with Breman, if we deal Justin, even Gattis, we have nothing in our lineup.

Dont now.

Guess we'll see what happens this offseason.

I think Heyward could add more bulk and muscle. Even if he doesn't I don't see a reason to not think his power will return at least a little.

There's also a misconception about adding muscle slowing you down. You can get bigger and still be agile. It's the kind of muscle you put on. Heyward isn't going to go for bulk. Most baseball players stay away from that kind of muscles mass.

As much as I love Heyward when I take off my homer glasses his numbers aren't that great. Last year in a full healthy season he hit
.271/.351/.384 with 11 hrs 58 RBI and 20 sb

Other comparable seasons from young defensive outfielders with potential
2008 BJ Upton. .273/.383/.401 with 9 hrs 67 RBIs and 44 sb
2009 BJ Upton .241/.313/.373 with 11 hrs 55 RBI and 42 sb
2013 Dexter Fowler .263/.369/.407 with 12 hrs 42 RBI and 19 sb

I could list a few more but his season was comparable to players like Michael Bourne, Coco Crisp, Brett Gardner, etc. Heyward was my favorite brave but statistically he can easily be replaced for much cheaper. Maybe not defensively but plenty of players can put up better seasons than that.

Okay. Then you are requiring a standard of me that you didn't abide by in your own post?

I made the point of comparing this deal to the Babe Ruth deal. Whether you agree with it or not, it was a point for conversation.

As for the rest of it, you can't take issue with someone venting their obvious frustrations with this move.

Wow. I am pretty sure this is a very bad deal. And a bad move in the first place. I really do not like sending Heyward to them but when you have to add Walden in to get those guys, just back away.
