Braves Meeting with Lester

Imo, and this is based on what Hart has said, we will try to be competitive in 2015/16, but they want to make sure they have a very strong team in 17 and beyond. That means not only getting good MLB players, but also rebuilding the farm, which obviously needs some work.

What is so great about the core players we had/have? Jason wasn't in the long term picture regardless of which side of the yard you stand on. The core players that were all extended last season are still here. I said last season that moving forward we needed to shake things up a bit. I felt that this group has hit their ceiling with the DS loss in 2013. Clearly the front office agreed that a change was needed.

Our core guys were good enough to win the WS, but we've surrounded them with garbage. Before the Heyward deal, we had maybe 10 guys in the whole organization who could be decent SP and only 4 of them have any big league experience. Even worse, of those 4 with MLB experience, only one finished the season healthy.

I just feel like we could continue to be competitive while not blowing up the team if we wanted to.

I kind of agree...we just couldn't hit man! Hell, I dunno...I want to see new faces but I think we could still have done something this year..,it would help if we knew what we were going to look like going into the spring, I suppose.

All true...but some of the core will need to step the hell up a bit...like Simmons' bat...and I guess CJ lol

So stupid to say our core had "hit its ceiling." That being the youngest core in the league.

Let's see. Missed playoffs in 2011. Lost play in game in 2012, basically missed playoffs again. 2013 they achieved their greatest triumphent...an NLDS loss. Missed playoffs again in 2014.

So this awesome group has a total of one playoff win in four years.

The same core was here in 2011 as last year and this year? 2012? You aren't making sense. Those were totally different teams. We have had a ton of young players the last two years. Again, the youngest core in the league. To say they "hit their ceiling" is just plain dumb, nothing else. Even with Heyward and Freddie being on the team for so long, they STILL have projection left (Heyward moreso than Freddie).

I don't know why I bother arguing this crap with you. The team has been different each year, as most teams are. The "cores" have certainly been different and you never know what can happen year-to-year with young players. We have been a super young team the last two years. To say they peaked is so niners.

Did we sign Lester yet? I want to see what pitcher we get afterward for Justin to really solidify the best rotation/worst lineup combo.

If we sign Lester and trade Justin for Walker...we have too many pitchers. Minor would almost certainly be packaged with BJ for something (ANYTHING!!). And yes we'd have no offense and would 100% need to sign Tomas.

That's pretty much what I outlined earlier. Just waiting to hear back from Hart.

And you can never have too many pitchers.

I'd agree in general, but you can't have Minor or Miller in the 'pen. We'd have:

Lester
Teheran
Wood
Minor
Miller
Walker

I wish we could have Harang for strictly depth purposes but someone will sign him to their rotation.

Yes. Minor should be packaged with BJ to unload his contract.

Agreed. Really wonder what we could get. I like Minor, he will be a good #3 for someone. He has value, but BJ has more negative value.

We would unload all of his contract and get a prospect that wouldn't even break our current top 20. That's my guess.
