Braves Meeting with Lester

Lester didn't reject Boston's $110MM offer, he's just currently in the process of visiting all of the teams which have expressed an interest in making a multi-million dollar investment in him and then will make a decision (many believe before the Winter Meetings).

Hanley Ramirez just took a below market value deal to play with the Red Sox. It's not a foreign concept.

OK, so I'll lump you in with the delusional crowd. Got it.

David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com reports that the Cubs have offered free agent left-hander Jon Lester a six-year deal worth "north of" $135 million.

This is the biggest reported offer to Lester thus far, topping the six-year, $110-120 million offer he reportedly received from the Red Sox. This is shaping up to be more than a two-team race, as the Braves, Giants, and Cardinals are also involved. Perhaps something close to a $25 million AAV isn't so far-fetched after all.

Appears bidding has become more aggressive.

DOB reported that we did not present an offer at the in-person meeting last week, and I have not seen any reporting that we've made an offer since. It's looking more and more likely that Lester will price himself out of a Braves uniform. Probably for the best.

Yeah. Probably for the best. Still I was glad to see Hart take the trouble to meet with the player and his agent. Doesn't do any harm.

But, but, but....Lester loves Atlanta! That should easily be worth $5M per year...right?

Talking about whizzing away $25m is a lot easier than actually doing it.

It will come down to his family, of course. Security. Comfort. For his family. See how that works?

In the end the Cubs will sign him and Boston will trade for Hamels. It's the only logical course after signing both Hanley and Pablo, creating a glut of positional players.

22 mil a year is below market?

In what universe.

In the universe where Lester is likely to get a 6/150 deal. If someone offered you $50k per year, and another person offered you $44k per year for the exact same job, I have a hard time imagining you end up working for the lower offer.
