Braves in on Yasmany Tomas

He's a fat pig. Then again, so is Cabrera.

We've got great scouts. And now we've got a few data points to compare him to.

I'm sure there were people who thought the sox shouldn't sign Abreu. Could bust, but we'll have to rely on our scouts.

Cuban players don't have access to the caliber of strength and conditioning that teams have. I would expect his conditioning to get better.

As for Abreu there were a lot of people who thought he couldn't hit quality pitching. His contract was seen by most as an overpay. His success changed my mind about future Cuban players. I would have signed Castillo too if I could.

Teasing. A little bit. It's a nice way for a midmarket team to compete, for sure, if you get it right. If you miss, not so much.

Thought we were done with the Cuban players after the Escobar incident.

Then I remembered we have El Cubano Gigante at the helm.

Yeah, whatever Cuban aversion hangover we might have had has washed out with Señor Gonzalez at the helm. As a racist generality from a guy who grew up in South Florida, the difference between early and recent Cuban immigrants is palpable. I think all the assholes were the ones left behind.

Except Canseco. He's an early asshole.

I wish we were done with the Cuban experiment

but sadly enough we kept him and fired Wren and then got rid of Heyward instead

Latest reports are that Tomas may be aiming at a shorter deal to capitalize on FA in his prime yrs. Could we end up getting this guy for 5/75?

Regardless, I'm signing this guy before I even think about moving J-Up or Gattis. Signing Tomas takes one more quality bat off the market, which should drive up the trade value of Upton/Gattis?

15 million a year for a guy who's never played in MLB? Last time we signed a hitter.....BJ. Before that Uggla.....I'm nervous.

And His D is bad? Upton, Upton, Heyward was an elite outfield. Mostly b/c Heyward b/c both uptons have wtf mistakes out there. Gattis, Upton, and this guy sound like it could be one of the worst defensive outfields ever. Cunningham gets to be on the big club this year just for defensive replacement late?

Upton, Upton, Heyward was not an elite defensive outfield. Heyward was elite. Mel was adequate, and prone to idiotic plays. Justin was, frankly, pitiful. We're not going to lose anything defensively by dealing Justin.

Which is also why I'm ok with Gattis in left if we have a great CF. Gattis will likely catch what he can get to, study hard and position himself well. He'll never cover much ground. But although Justin had good enough range, he sure made a lot of ugly plays.

Sigh. Revisionist history. Braves traded for Uggla, then signed him to an extension -- which everyone agreed at the time was the sensible thing to do.

How much money do the Ms have? Anyway we could extend the Jup deal to include the Minor and BJ package? This is probably a little murph-esque, but what about Jup, bj, Minor, and Carpenter for Walker, Saunders, and Miller? Then we would have the money to sign Tomas, Aoki, and Peavy.

1. Aoki
2. Peraza
3. Freddie
4. Tomas
5. Gattis
6. Johnson/Miller platoon
7. Saunders
8. Simba-ss

1. Teheran
2. Wood
3. Walker
4. Miller
5. Peavy

Not everyone. I thought the extension was going to be a problem.

I wasn't one of them, but there were lots of people who correctly predicted the extension would be a disaster. Pretty much everyone did agree the trade was amazing. It still reminds me of a murph3 deal

But the sad irony is that Infante and Dunn are still both serviceable major leaguers, so in that sense, the trade wasn't a success either. But when presented with that trade, my guess is every GM in the majors would make that deal 100/100 times on a straight talent basis. Marlins wouldn't have made it if not for the financial implications.

No it's not. I thought it was a great trade and a fair deal for Uggla. Hated bj from day 1.

My point is that this group hasn't made good decisions with big money signings. Esp for hitters. I don't put that on Wrenn. These guys were around.

Probably not all, but most.

Please? That's actually a very good lineup and rotation.
