Braves Meeting with Lester

David Ross and Lester could be a package deal. Lester and Ross are good friends and Lester pitches better when he's throwing to Ross.

Enscheff will love this.

For what it's worth, earlier this year Jon Lester bought a house that's very close to site of the new #Braves ballpark.

Lester and his wife and kids have lived near Peachtree City in recent years.

Then Hart should be able to get him for $15M per right?

I forgot to mention that his wife's hairdresser also lives in Cobb -- so I'm thinking $12MM.

Pretty soon Lester will be paying the Braves for the honor of pitching so close to home! The new ballpark really IS going to generate more revenue for the team!

Oh I wasn't saying Lester was gonna sign here. Just stating that Ross and Lester could sign together. Needless to say we aren't getting them.

David Ross is not coming back to Atlanta....he told us that in order to win a championship he had to leave Atlanta.

Your point is irrelevant... He has already won a Championship. So it could make sense for him to come "home" to Atlanta, and finish his career with the team he's played the longest for.

I think Lester really has no desire to play here and you can't blame him either. He took the meeting as an act of kindness and probably had something going on in Georgia that week already.

Again, unless he just has some magical boner for the Braves or his family just really wants him to pitch almost literally in his backyard, it was a complete waste of time. It's still incredibly stupid to give the kind of contract someone will pay him to a 31-year-old pitcher, given our team's financial shape and apparent desire to build toward 2017.

Oh, man, I get the tingles just thinking about how good we'll be in two years!

John Hart told us that Jon Lester is probably the right player at the wrong time for the #Braves

What does that even mean?

To me it means Lester would prefer to play here if the money was roughly equal to other offers. And the Braves have obviously had interest in Lester in the past. But the Braves are rebuilding and signing an aging pitcher to a long term deal doesn't fit that plan.

Well Hart is right as it relates to his stated goals. However Lester is an ideal player for an organization that has enough young talent that it should be striving for a championship now instead of "rebuilding" to get back to where we've been the past few years, minus 2014.
