I just remember watching the Royals in the A.L. Wild Card Game running wild against the A's. I remember thinking to myself that the Braves need to get some speed. Seems like they went a long way in doing so.
Markakis cost nothing but money and not a lot considering where salaries are headed in th efuture.
I think Hart is clearly building for the future while staying relatively relevant in the present. What was he supposed to do to fill RF? Play a scrub and we lose 100 games?
I think the haul we got for Justin/Jason is good. Sounds like a lot of intriguing talents. Braves are always able to target young players and develop them. I'll trust the system unti lthe system fails.
You can only spend a dollar once. Nick's wasted money could have been spent on getting BJ out of town. That is worth more then two extra years of Nick Markakis in a rebuilding year. And the system has failed. What more is there to trust?

If we're selling off players for the future might as well go full on fire sale mode and trade Gattis as well. There is no difference between winning 60 and winning 70 in my mind. Either way you aren't relevant.
To paraphrase noted philosopher Ricky Bobby, if you ain't first or the wild card, you're last.
The system failed because Wren chased away all of the quality evaulators. Even a guy like Law who is consistently pessimistic about the Braves have applauded their organizational moves the last couple of months.
Wren also took a team that JS gutted before he left and turned into one of the youngest and best teams in MLB before Hart came in and tore it down.
You say tomato, I say extent.
To what extent must one go to extend a player? See the difference????

Wren inherited Heyward/Freeman/Teheran/Minor(Roy Clark)
NOt a bad way to start.
Lol we couldn't even dump Johnson to a team that needs a 3b
It's not. He also made a lot of excellent trades for the team as well. The Braves were in a not so good spot when JS stepped down.
I don't disagree but the organizational depth in terms of scouts was fading and it wasn't a recipe for future success.
I don't think Hart could have made a trade that satisfied the majority of the posters on this board which I find to be a shame.
If they determined that they could not extend these guys then you need to restock for the future.
Neither is gutting your team and hoping for the future. It's going to be well after 2017 before the Braves can compete.

Getting a first round draft pick is possibly better than this package.
