Braves sign Pierzynski

Yea, that really fits my track record. Heyward is a broken record that just says the same junk over and over again and he needs to learn some manners.

Its an internet message board, i have great manners.

Didnt know this was the prom.

Not rooting for this team this year. Trade away far and away my favorite brave, and then sign the biggest douchebag in baseball, wake me up in 2017, I'll only be here for Freeman and Kimbrel.

Awesome fan.

Who you rooting for then, Stl/Heyward?

Hart on the signing:

"Look what you have here is a guy that has win a World Series and has been through the battles. Look When you look at a guy like him, you see all the battle scars, someone that is going to do whatever it takes to win and some people, look, especially those on the other side of the fence may not like that. The guy is going to bring something that has been lacking for some time, and look, that's an in your face attitude to this clubhouse. Look, all offseason we looked and tried to move Chris Johnson, and we tried our darnest, but look their just was no demand in the market for a guy with his services, so deep down inside, look, we know what we are doing, we understand with this move their is going to be a meltdown in the clubhouse and we will be able to void ourselves of that contract."

It's extra funny when the same jokes are endlessly recycled.

Well, if John Rocker were still playing John Hart could trade for him again. Then he could "potentially mentor" our young pitching staff and "be a clubhouse leader" too.

Note: Hart did trade for John Rocker as GM in Texas. So while I am kidding I wouldn't put such past him.

Think he traded for him when JS unloaded him to Cleveland, too. Not sure what that has to do with this thread, but it did inspire a search, which led to this:

http://www.nytimes.com/2001/06/23/sports/baseball-braves-trade-rocker-to-indians.html

Amazing that a relief pitcher literally froze the North American media for about 3 weeks, just for being "politically incorrect."

After the season, in an article in Sports Illustrated, Rocker denigrated different groups, including homosexuals, AIDS patients, single mothers, African-Americans, Japanese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indians, Russians, Spanish speakers and riders of the No. 7 subway line, which runs to Shea Stadium in Queens from Manhattan. He also called a teammate a fat monkey.

1.) We should note that a comedian from SNL observed, "I hate the guy, but he has ridden the #7 train."

2.) The player, suspected of being the "fat monkey," thumped an unsuspecting participant in a between-innings Milwaukee sausage race with his bat, and there was no media outrage.

Sheff was worth the gamble. So was JD Drew. Bobby Bo only had a beef with Bobby V, which is no sin.

Also, Bobby Cox. Enough said.

What's the difference between those guys (the former two, anyway) and Pierzynski? The potential reward outweighs the risk, by a significant margin.

Conventional Braves Way wisdom says a backup catcher is:

1) A baller on D

2) A mentor type

3) A good clubhouse influence

David Ross was all three. Eddie Perez was all three. Even Lairdership was arguably 2 of 3.

Pierzynski is, arguably, none of the above. I'd take an organizational soldier type over that.

It's not a big deal, in the long run. It's just a puzzler, in an off-season that seems to be full of them.

You've been here long enough to know that running jokes into the ground is one of this board's greatest past times.

What's really extra funny is how Hart is destroying a team that could have competed with a couple of adjustments. Now we've topped it off with arguably the biggest douchepickle in baseball.

LOL apparently somebody overheard Fredi talking about the Pierzynski signing in a HONEY BAKED HAM STORE and tweeted it out.

David O'Brien

@DOBrienAJC

Little did Fredi G know he'd let cat out of bag with coffee-shop convo overheard. Buzz is real: #Braves 1-yr deal w/ catcher A.J. Pierzynski

Mark Bowman

@mlbbowman

Hat tip on the Pierzynski deal goes to @darrenstains, whose father ran into Fredi Gonzalez at Honeybaked Ham.

If only it could've been Mark Bowman breaking the story at the Honeybaked Ham.

LOL trading two FA's to be is killing a team.

Man yall are funny.

This was actually a very close friend of mine. He texted me around 1:00 and told me about it. He told me that Fredi told him and he was the first to know, which was weird, but turned out to be the truth. I would have posted it here but I was driving.
