If the Cards Extent Heyward for...

I wouldn't say that, some eventually do. There were a few Braves that took pay cuts to stay.

Exactly. There are a ton of franchise level talents who have taken below market value deals (while still remaining handsomely compensated).

If Jason hadn't come out and said that he wanted to stay in Atlanta, and that he NEVER received a long-term offer from the Braves, I would obviously harbor a different viewpoint. But that ain't the case.

I really don't understand why some on here are so determined to believe that we shafted Heyward and refused to even try to negotiate with him on a deal, when the fact is that simply isn't the truth. Ramadon is a very reliable source, and he has clearly stated that we had a discussion with his agent last offseason around what the parameters might be in an extension, and the answer they got was nowhere near where they were comfortable going. So let me ask those that continue this crap, what would you do if someone told you what it would take that was nowhere near what you would be willing to do? There was obviously no reason to go back and ask again, they already had their answer.

So I guess technically Heyward wasn't lying when he said we didn't offer him an extension, because we knew we were nowhere near the same zip code. How hard is that to comprehend? The Braves would have loved to have been able to keep him, but at nowhere near the price he was asking, so there remained only two choices, keep him for the year, lose him to free agency and get a sandwich pick, or trade him now if they felt the package offered was better than choice #1, which of course is what they did.

Get over it.

*yawn*

And the sheep are out to pasture.

You know it's **** like this that drives quality people from these forums. It happened last week with cog and now twice or three items in this thread alone you have snarky comments aimed at undermining posters (namely me and my "intel" as akin to talking to your neighbor's cat).

Screw this board. I respect people like MFII, Meta, Jpx7, Julio, Zito and others when they present legitimate criticism of the team's personnel moves because they state an opinion and don't usually resort to ad hominem attacks (usually couched in baseless snark). FYI I criticized the return on the JUP trade but liked the Heyward deal- so, no, I'm not a Hart apologist all the time.

Comments like this and others made in this thread make you sound like a petulant child. Grow up or leave. Otherwise I will

akin to talking to your neighbor's cat.

That one might be me. I mentioned the neighbor. Not his cat, though. The bookie from Panama dealt with the poor little thing already. For what it's worth, my post wasn't aimed at you. It was just a joke. A lot of us have been going back and forth for 15 years. We debate and use sarcasm and make jokes, but still respect each other despite all that. It's easy for other people who perhaps haven't been around as long (or aren't as involved) to get caught up in it and take the sarcasm and jokes the wrong way. It's just a fun way to discuss something we all have in common (fans of the Braves) and deal with the frustration or excitement of the moment.

Oh lord.

When you posted at Scout you got under Bill's skin because he resented the perception that you might be scooping him. At the time I defended you because I valued your contributions, and I still do, although admittedly more from a literary perspective than out of any real interest in your 'intel'. Bill learned who you are, who you know ... and I'm just going to leave it at that. Suffice it to say that your notions of my petulancy would probably find a new, more profound basis if I had the inclination to level with you. I don't, so I wont.

I 'reported' on the Braves for 5 years -- I maintain occasional contact with individuals I worked with in the organization and others who have since moved on. I don't remotely derive any sort of pleasure from sharing the small scraps of information I learn because a) it isn't my job anymore b) I'm scared of losing my sources and c) this is the World Wide Web -- not interested in opening myself up to annoying scrutiny and the like. But you have, and I applaud your tenacity -- and ability to absolutely dog the posters on here who dare to consider the _facts_ objectively (to say nothing about those of who might actually know).

You shared something, I chose not to believe it in its entirety. End of story. This is not me calling you out. Have I done that to you yet? I'm not into degrading internet-machismo and toying with fragile self-worths.

If you can't handle my 'snark' then learn how to use the ignore function (like Knucksie, who all of these recently omnipresent whiners could learn a thing or two from) and stop acting like a bitter jerkoff.

Happy New Year.

Chipper and Andruw stayed on team friendly deals. Sadly this is the state of the Atlanta Braves organization. If players aren't going to take concessions they just won't be here.

As did Freeman, Simmons, Teheran and Kimbrel.

Because the Braves went to them to buy out their arby years.......according to Heyward and others, Heyward was not approached when the others were. Heyward is one year from FA, the people you mentioned were still 4-5 years from hitting the market.

And you can make a good argument that the team betrayed them by selling them on a 96-win team and giving them a Mukaki Rebuild instead.

Or that they made a smart move in that they will have more total competitive years over the course of their contracts.

I remember him being approached, but he was coming off a terrible season and an injury.

I don't know if the players would agree. I'm SURE being on a winning team and keeping the core together was a huge selling point during negotiations with these guys.

Maybe...maybe not. Ultimately the Braves will be more competitive past 2015 than they would have been if they rode out 2015 for one fruit less run.

Unfortunately that's the world we live in now. Just reading this board, you can tell we have some amazing posters, and then some entitled, arrogant pricks who enjoy pissing people off and contribute very little. Can't even have a civil discussion with them. Same with every forum I've been a part of unfortunately, and more so lately. Blocking them out is your best bet.

People will always believe the reality that best fits with how they want to see it. It's the nature of humans.
