The argument is that New York is the draw. You said JR Smith picked the Knicks over many teams (which is true) implying that he picked the Knicks because of the sheer fact they are the Knicks. If Melo wasn't a Knick we have no clue how it would have played out.

You do know that Melo is Knick still?

I don't know what you are trying to prove here.

Was Melo on the Knicks? Is Melo currently on the Knicks?

This frees Stoudemire to be pursued by teams with cap room. According to ESPN's Ric Bucher, Stoudemire met with Heat president Pat Riley last night. The Nets, Bulls, Knicks, Rockets and Maverics are also in the mix.

Ok, but again this is purely speculation that other teams offered him the deal that hte Knicks did. Yes, we know that he picked that Knicks. But that could be simply due to the fact they offered the most money which would not really give us reason to believe that New York had anything to do with it.

I want a thread dedicated to just thethe and Zito debating.

LETS MAKE IT HAPPEN

Knicks were able to offer the most money. He even said that the Bulls were the best fit. That was purely a money grab.

False, he said he didn't want to leave NY, that was where he wanted to be and that's where he picked to play and he had unfinished business there. Good try part 92487891

I think most players considering the Knicks this off season will realize that the team they would be joining is not the team that finished last (?) in 14-15.

Of course but its clear there is a A LOT of work that needs to be done. Knicks aren't going to turn from a 10-15 win team to a 50 win team in just one offseason and if you are a guy in your late 20's early 30's are you going to waste your prime years on that? There is an unknown with Melo because of his age and health. There is unknown with the projection of a draft pick.

There is absolutely no foundation right now that woudl lead a rationale fan to think the Knicks are anything close to a championship level team for the next few years.

How did we go from players signing with the Knicks to the Knicks winning a title?

The Knicks could easily turn from a 15 win team to a 40-50 win team in one offseason. (hypothetical)

Add Okafor
Add Gasol
Add Matthews

Gasol
Okafor
Melo
Matthews
Calderon

That's not a better than .500 team in the East? And not just those specific players, just adding a top 3 draft pick + max player + decent FA easily makes that team competitive in the East.

When is a draft pick a guarantee? Sure, Okafor looks great but if they don't get that #1 pick then its basically a crap shoot. The assumption of adding Gasol is a HUGE assumption. Of course adding one of the top 10-20 players in the league is going to make your team much better.

Anyone that follows college basketball says this draft has 3 stars *Okafor / Towns / Mudiay*

The Knicks have a top 3 pick.......

The draft is very top heavy....you could add Turner to the list if he declares but after that there aren't many stars. Stein, Winslow, Johnson, Harrell will be good players but probably not super-stars/stars like the other 4-5 guys could be.

The NBA draft is less of a crapshoot than any other sport. Especially in terms of top picks.

There are always "can't miss" guys that flop. Sure, there is more certainty at the top but lets not act like this top pick is going to step in and be a top 20 player in 2-3 years without question.

They don't have to be. The team could possibly have Melo and another star player with other star players.

The consensus #1 pick usually doesn't bust nowadays. Bennett was a reach and no one projected to go 1 and Oden had horrible knee injuries other than that all the consensus guys are superstars/all stars.

Wall - Davis - Kyrie - Blake - Rose

Yes, if everything breaks right then the Knicks will be a borderline championship team. Hopefully for them this scenario where they get everything they want 5-7 times over works out.
