Why Do Liberals Hate 'American Sniper'?

I guess since toma started a thread about him and his opinion

Yeah, I guess some people do give a **** about what Seth thinks

I think more conservatives are unhappy with the other detractor, Michael Moore, who actually presented an interesting and debate worthy commentary.

If people are really up in arms about the 'me too' Twitter musings of a Canadian comedian who wrote "Sausage Party" then we are truly ****ed as a nation.

Moore probably doesn't even believe the stuff he says. He makes outrageous claims to make people notice him.

It makes me chuckle when he critiques a film and points out the "propaganda" and the false information in the movie, when every single one of his movies are filled with propaganda, blatanta lies, and half truths.

As far as Rogen, I don't consider what he said as any sort of critique. Just journalist fishing for news.

I have yet to see the movie since I just returned from Hawaii. But I will definitely see it before it leaves theatres.

Speaking of Rogen, Mrs. 50# and I watched "The Interview" on pay-per-view the other night. Low, lower, lowest brow comedy, but it's pretty funny. A pretty good satire not only of North Korea, but of the US news media. James Franco is awesome in it.

Advertising dollars are spent on internet clicks.
Blogs reap $$$ with this false outrage.

Wanna get rich using a conservative view point ??
Michael Moore is the ticket.

His notion is an old one. Also used by Army and Marines to deride the USAF.
Like Moores father -- after WWII !!!

Something I fear more than "islamic extremism" is this propagandic patriotism where you can't question the acts of military and police for it's un-American and you must support the troops at all costs.

There's a certain segment in this country that do not want to hold military and police to the same standards if not higher than civilians and the excuses for some of the most horrific things to come from that side are troubling because people accept it.

I remember during the 2012 GOP Primary Debates, the candidates on stage managed to turn the soldiers who pissed on the dead bodies into heroes just by blasting Obama for condemning their actions and turning it into "He's the President that's had the most disdain for soldiers in history". The applause and cheers from the crowd paints a broader picture of just what a lot of people in this country actually think about issues like that.

Instead of debating what's a legit argument by Moore the smokescreens are back up with liberal vs. Conservative talking points.

I have friends who served in Iraq and Afghanistan that tell me there's good people there that they fought to help, then you watch American Sniper and it portrays this message that Arabs are the ultimate enemy amd justifies the actions of Kyle as black and white. What's disturbing is in the book he talks about setting a record for kills and how much fun he has doing it.

I remember when liberals were criticizing 300 for celebrating the Bush military agenda through allegory. Good times.

At the end of the day it is just a movie. A War Movie with I take it plenty of poetic license and artistic flare.
"Sands Of Iwo Jima" in it's day

I agree with Sav. people on this board and conservatives in general have great disdain with government and the people we entrust to make the laws.

But give those that carry out those laws and go into those wars in the names of those laws
a free pass.

I don't get that.

Kinda like vilifying Tony Soprano but defending Pauly "Walnuts"

Movies send messages all the time. Seemed like it was largely told from Kyle's point of view.

Regardless, it's up for six awards at Liberal Hollywood's biggest show, so it obviously can be appreciated as good work, even if some don't agree with the overall message.

Message ?!?

It is a movie -- a bunch of people playing pretend and filmed at a very high level of technical skill.
Awards ??
Raphael Palermo won a Gold Glove one season
//////

Yes, movies send messages but like everything else the watcher has to have a level of sophistication going in -- like, this is a movie / dramatization and not to be confused with real life

Probably about the most pointless post ever. Some movies have more to say than others. For example, Selma has more to say than Neighbors. Of course, movies aren't "real life" in that sense, though many do depict things that happened.

If all one gets out of American Sniper is he kills people, and there are no consequences whatsoever, either physical or psychological, then they didn't really watch it.

Let's not confuse American Sniper with La Dolce Vita, Catch-22 or even The French Lieutenants Wife.

In 20 years the "message" of AmSnipe will come across dated and quaint.
so no, the only message is buy popcorn and hits on conservative blogs.

If one takes more of a message than that well, ...

"oh, you'll love it. In the third act they shoot a gun"

Actually one of the most pointless threads -- eve rr.
I think I want to take a shower

Part of the entertainment value is the realistic nature of the storyline though wouldn't you say?

Sure. It's the reason I'll see Unbroken, for example, but in this case I am looking forward to this one because I look forward to Eastwood movies and Cooper movies and now it's a combo! :eusa_dance:

After watching the Neighbors, I'm not sure I can do another Rogen movie.
