Official off-season trade rumor and suggestion thread

That's because I didn't say it. I said the chances of him being a mid rotation starter or better are the same as him flaming out at AAA.

I don't see Sims as taking a step back so much as he he was the same pitcher but against tougher competition.

Not really... His strikeouts were WAYY down

Maybe more advanced hitters were harder for him to strikeout. I don't think he would have had more success in high A ball in 2013 than he did in 2014.

A second surgery? A failure to return to pre-surgery form, despite having had ligament-replacement?

TJS's are pretty common place in baseball nowadays with a very high recovery rate. There is obviously some risk that he won't return to form or that he will remain injured. But all pitchers are essentially walking time bombs. One way to look at it is that it's almost better than he already had TJS, as he'll have already gotten it out of the way.

I know it's not fair to compare to international signings because they get a head start but compare Fried to Sims at the same age and level. Sims 10.5 k/9 and 3.5 bb/9. He was picked 21st. Now Fried will have lost almost 2 full years of development. I think Fried is just as likely to flame out at AAA as he is to be a mid rotation starter or better.

But Fried is LH. Making those numbers much more valuable.

Carolina League is a pretty advanced league for a 20-year-old. He was 2.5 years younger than his average competition. Not saying he had a great year or that he's a lead pipe cinch to succeed, but I don't think his 2014 is a reason for undue pessimism.

20 is right on part with most first round high school draft picks. 18 for gcl, 19 for low A, 20 for high A, 21 for AA, 22 for AAA, 23 major league rookie is about average. 26 year Olds in A ball that probably will never reach AA shouldn't factor into the average age of the league. I am not down on Sims at all, he dominated at Rome. I like to see prospects have a high level of success for a stained period of time at some point. Sims did well enough to start the season at AA so he is right on track. Not down on him yet, if he has a similar season at AA as he had at high AA I will start to worry.

Sims has gone through the normal progression for a first round pick, but the Carolina League always seems to be filled with second-year college guys and guys repeating the league. Those types are going to have both age and experience in their corner when compared to a guy who is two years out of high school. It's a tough league. Always has been.

I am pretty sure we have had a ton of pitching prospects that did well in the Carolina league. It's not the PCL. I am not trying to say bad things about Sims but your bending over backwards to try and make his season better than it was. I am more than willing to chalk it up to development and learning but I expect better results in AA to keep his stock where it is.

Dayan Viciedo was just DFA'd. He's a guy we 100% need to grab. Obviously has been a disappointment so far but is still young with big RH power. These next two season are lost years....why not take a shot here. He can play LF/RF/1B.

Hoo, my little pretty one, my pretty one
When you gonna give me some time, Varona?
Hoo, you make my motor run, my motor run
Gun it comin' off of the line, Varona

He's a horrible defender at every position, he's a DH.
