I like how those of us disagreeing in one thread are agreeing in another. Wish politicians were more like that. Party politics suck.

I understand why landline phones are taxed. Internet will be taxed too. The internet being a utility is a terrible idea.

Don't tell me your power never goes out. And when it does, I'm sure the government does an excellent job turning it back on, right?

Business if for profit and they do a darn better job at it that government. They have to answer to the market because if they didn't someone else would jump in. Like FIOS jumped in my area. I have no choice on who my power company is and I'd say my internet runs more smoothly and with better service than my local utility companies. You really think the government answers to you? If that's true, why am I forced to have Obamacare, forced to allow them to spy on my internet usage, forced to use the local power company, etc.

Not one person has answered me in someone the government has provided faster, cheaper, better than private business has.

Business is not capable of organizing an undertaking of that size

You never answered if you lump utilities as a governmental service or ...

I don't get how people just broad brush "government is bad " and use that as their argument to support whatever idea that gets floated.

Seems a pretty weak side to take. I don't like 3/4 what gvt does but, I understand how it is not set up to please me 100% of the time. I hate paying taxes. But ...

Just seems sophomoric .

I could probably discuss how to improve or change any number of issues but, the people that hold the unmovable notion that anything done through government is inherently bad just blocks not only the progress of society but the progress of a simple public discussion.

Again, seems sophmoric

evidenced by Sen Cotton's letter where he simply doesn't understand how diplomacy works.

Or peoples half baked half informed ideas concerning Net Neutrality.

I am for government involvement if in includes having to protect its citizens in matters of health. Not sure how that a comparison to private internet servicers.

A public utility (usually just utility) is an organization that maintains the infrastructure for a public service (often also providing a service using that infrastructure). Public utilities are subject to forms of public control and regulation ranging from local community-based groups to statewide government monopolies. hmmm monopolies.....

Government regulation is bad. The free market trumps government regulation. How do you think the outcome government backed internet will be different than Obamacare?

The government does not quickly or cost efficient. Look at government employees, is there a cushier job?

That's what I don't get. As focal as people are on here about the govt spying on them, they support even more spying.

I doubt they could possibly spy more than they already do. I mean, about five minutes after posting this I'm going to get "spam" about how the government isn't spying.

While not 100% true, generally USPS offers similar or cheaper priced alternatives to UPS. There are some things UPS offers that USPS cannot, but Priority Mail is almost always cheaper than UPS ground and in many cases it arrives as fast or faster. Not to mention, what other courier can you pay 50 cents to deliver a letter anywhere in the US?

If not mistaken one of the articles of the constitution centered on interstate commerce. Be for it or against it, kinda gotta learn to live with it becasue it is one of the cornerstones of our nation

Government regulation is not bad. Certain aspects of government regulation might be cumbersome but in my lifetime government through the tool of regulation put out the fire on Lake Erie. Regulation has lowered the rates of asthma in LA County. Put seatbelts in cars. Regulates the food you eat. Instituted child labor laws. Saftey regulations that govern how business' operate toward the public good
Obamacare is bad ? The data disagrees with you. The same I was saying above - we can't get to how to improve ACA for those that are bent on politically dicarding it.

YOu must be trolling. My step Dad sent me a letter from literally 0.5 miles away and it arrived 5 days after he sent it.
