Exactly. There would be some fringe players that would be taken as well but they would also be making more money at 18/19 than most people would and getting free finance lessons from experts.

I don't even care about that side of the argument. If these kids have skills that are valuable and as long as teams want to pay for their services, then it's not my right to tell them they can't do that.

I hate to drop the American card, but it really is quite un-American to prevent people from earning a living.

But thats the point. These are potentially great jobs, after reformatting the system, that we are denying so that we can make these kids free moneymakers to schools. Its outrageous. As a NBA fan it irks me because college basketball is awful and the players are worse when they come to the NBA because of it. As a consumer I want the best product possible.

No, I agree. I just dont think its the best for the kids long term.

Who is giving free finance lessons?

Really like both. Need to see more. Okafor's lack of D worries me. RT @chadfordinsider: Hey @BillSimmons, are you Team Okafor or Team Towns?

I think I'm leaning towards team Towns. I'm concerned not only with Okafor's D, but also with his lack of athleticism.

Seems like those two, Russell, and Mudiay are the clear top four (in no particular order). Just hoping the Knicks maintain the worst record so they guarantee themselves a crack at one of the four.

You just don't build a team around a center that can't protect the rim. It goes against everything the NBA is doing now.

Okafor is probably a nice fit in NY if they stay stubborn with the triangle. I just disagree iwth a center that isn't athletic or a good defensive player.

Claiming Okafor isnt atetic could be premature. I just heard Doug Collins say its hard to tell, maybe Okafor just moves more effeciently.

Who would have guess Allan Houston was more athletic than Grant Hill?

So does Memphis playing 2 lane eating players. Hint there isnt one way to win

That is important. You don't have to be a rim protector to be a great defender.

It's just a lot more difficult to have a good defensive team without one. Memphis benefits because of how well they guard the perimeter.

Last 2 NBA champions and their centers:

Chris Anderson and Tiago Splitter.

Tim Duncan is in the running for defensive player of the year, but you are conveniently forgetting this part of the equation.

Birdman is a good run protector.

Duncan is a PF, thethe said CENTER

Anderson played 17 minutes a game in the postseason, stop it.

Duncan basically plays the 5 for San Antonio.

And stop making this a micro issue. For the league as a whole, good teams and especially good defensive teams have a rim protector. There are very few exceptions.

You also can't just ignore the LeBron factor. He can make things not matter as much.

LeBron is so good that he makes rim protection not important for everybody.

If you want to win, you just need him I guess.

This is Brule's logic. I'm glad he doesn't run my team.

Again, haven't said that....you two are making rim protection the end all be all....thethe says "in this day and age you need it" sure you need to have a rim protector but you know what? Having Bron/KD/RW/Harden/Dwight/Curry/Melo/TD/TP/KL/Paul George/etc are way more important. You aren't winning without 1 or 2 of those guys, you have 1 of those guys and you can go find a guy that can play 17 minutes a night like Anderson to protect the win.

Passing on Okafor because you don't think he's a rim protector after he turned 19 two months ago.....is soooooooooooooo dumb.
