GDT: 7/31/13 Rockies at Braves

No way we trade Heyward. if we do, Wren deserves to be shot out of a cannon into the Grand Canyon.

Heyward is the guy who we should be built around. Mac staying around is something that carries us with experience while Heyward and Freeman start to hit their stride.

The only people who are untouchables for me:
Heyward
Simmons
Minor
Teheran
Medlen
Kimbrel

The rest, do as you please.

Why would Medlen be "untouchable"?

I would also argue, no one is "untouchable" as it only takes one idiot GM to offer you a great trade.

I'm biased that I think he can still reach the same high level as the end of 2012. If that's the case, he's already had TJ surgery and with his mechanics I don't imagine he'd need it again. If he pitches like he did end of 2012, that's an easy choice for me. You might get some prospects, but dominant starting pitching in this day and age is hard to find. Especially with how efficient he was pitching deep into the 7th-8th innings and a few CG.

I like Medlen but I wouldn't call him untouchable....I'd ship him out in a heartbeat for a big bat at 3b.

I agree. If the Angels offered Trout or the Nats offered Harper I wouldn't turn them down. BUT the odds of that happening are tiny.

We have 2 must build around pieces in Heyward and Freeman, 2 potential build around pieces in Minor and Simmons and one guy thankfully we have another 2 years til he gets expensive in Julio.

I just think it's silly to call anyone untouchable....If Seattle offered us Walker and Ramirez for Freeman would you really say no? Not that they would....but what if.

I wouldn't trade Freeman for any reaslitc offer that would be out there. Freeman is going to be an absolute stud. Low to Mid 900 OPS middle of the order bat.

Freeman has a career OPS of 809, this year he is at 870...he's yet to come close to a Mid 9 OPS.

Just so YOU know....TWO 1b in all of baseball, last year, had a 9+ OPS.....Prince and Edwin Encar.

4 this year, Davis, Goldy, Encar and Votto.

He needs more power before that can happen. His 20% K rate doesn't lend itself to a constant .300 hitter.

900 OPS doesn't come around like candy all of the time.

I don't care. Freeman is in his age 23 year and is just getting better and better. You may not like it but I like to project and Freeman has not give me any reason to think he won't get there. He is a special player.

His LD rate has increased every year. His walk rate has gotten better every year and his K rate has descreased as well (2012 & 2013 same so far.

He is a stud in every sense of the word.

He's not a 9 OPS guy, but keep thinking whatever you want.

Including this year, the average over the last 4 years for 1B with an OPS over 9 is 3.75
