Video Game Thread: Atari vs. Commodore Debate...

Mmmmmm. Nothing like a fresh can of woopass.

Eventually I'll get my smash legs under me and we'll have more balanced fights. I used to be a force with marth, still getting used to it. That and the lag vs live play. Not the insane lag like we had the last 3 games but the normal lag,

Was backing up some files from an old hard drive and came across this reminder of the infinite knowledge I possessed as a youngblood:

Yeah, game has some serious pull. Gave a nice boost to the Wii U. Dont think Zelda and Splatoon will be enough this year to keep it going.

Melee actually got more views than Smash 4, and Melee came on during the 4th quarter of the Super Bowl lol.

Yeah Wii U will peak this year.

Zelda U
Star Fox U
Mario Party 10
Splatoon
Xenoblade U

This is pretty much Nintendo's last hurrah for the Wii U, as I think 2016 will be a transitional year for 2017 when they release the Wii U successor. It'd be awfully tough to top this year or 2014 (Donkey Kong, Mario Kart 8, Super Smash Bros Wii U).

I think the decent success of the amiibos is helping keep wii u afloat right now. There's also a wild card coming in 2016 or so with a "quality of life" gizmo that nintendo is going to release. Nintendo has been making a profit lately so I don't think there in any rush to name a successor. Especially considering that the Wii U will get cheaper and cheaper to make as the parts inside the wii u become cheaper and cheaper.

Just a prediction on my part: I would look for nintendo to combine the console and handheld next year making it one unit. Don't know how they would pull it off, but this is what I'm thinking will happen.

Also, I think cloud gaming will be a big focal point next gen for the other consoles.

N64 to Gamecube , 5 years
Gamecube to Wii, 5 years
Wii to Wii U, 6 years
2017 will be 5 years since the Wii U came out.

Nintendo wants to release something that won't be a generation behind the PS4 and XB1, and they've also stated they want to finally bridge the gap between handheld and console, so we might see a hybrid. The gamepad has kind of been a hint of maybe what's to come.

Miyamoto already stated that there won't be a new conceptual Mario game out for Wii U, and that they've already started working on the newest concept Mario game for the Wii U's successor.

Boom Beach? Any of you guys play this mobile game? Made by same company of did Clash of Clans and plays similar to it? If so, want to join my squad that a few of my buddies are in? NOthing competitive or anything like that. Just fun trying to take out some bases together.

Ordered an XBox One refurbished with Kinect for (after coupons and earned giftcards) from staples.com for just north of 200 bucks. So I'll have that next week.

Destiny and Shadow of Mordor. Have a download code for Ryse but haven't used it yet. Gonna get ESO whenever that comes out, and probably get BOrderlands, but I'm fairly invested in Destiny. I have TItanfall but haven't even started it.

I have all of those. Was really into Destiny, but this week I have been playing Borderlands. Its one of my favorite games of all time. Have you played the raids yet on Destiny? I could help out sometime.

I just unlocked Vault of Glass so I haven't started.

Zelda always gets delayed. I think it's good though. Gives them plenty of time to make it the best it can be.

Nintendo really starting to discuss their next console. Makes me think perhaps 2016 will be the year. Maybe they will hold Zelda back and release it in 16 along with a new console.

They better not hold off on Zelda for Wii U. That's a big reason I bought the Wii U was the promised open world Zelda. That, Star Fox, Mario Maker, and Xenoblade. And of course Kart and Smash.

Well let's see...

5 years between the N64 and Gamecube.
5 years between the Gamecube and Wii.
6 years between the Wii and Wii U.

2016 would be 4 years. I think 2017 is more reasonable for Nintendo. However the Wii U is not making them much money, so they may try to jump for 2016 as desperation.

I think the next Gen Nintendo will be a hyper powered portable that can dock for traditional play. Nintendo has already kind of started blurring lines between 3DS and Wii U. I think they'll keep getting blurrier with the "gimmick" console being the portable (like the 3DS)
