Spring Training 2015

I'm fine with him being the 5th starter, but long reliever just makes absolutely no sense.

I think there is some value in having some time in the majors as a reliever the year before being a starter. But, I think in that case, you bring him up in September and let him see some live hitters; not April.

Struck me that way as well. Unless his clock is already ticking from his time in Houston?

Regardless of the arb clock, it doesn't appear that he's ready. JT really benefited from that extra time in the minors to refine his stuff and approach. Folty barely has two pitches. Seems like he REALLY needs that time.

Although there is a 80% chance it is just spring training noise, Dan Uggla looks like a man possessed right now. I saw him take an off speed pitch like a grownup.

I'm personally not in the camp of folks who believe a young pitcher getting roughed him in his first year is the worst thing that can happen. I mean either the pitcher can handle it or he can't. Based on what Folty has already said in interviews he knows exactly what he needs to improve and that he needs to improve on it. So just looking at it logically he knows that if he gets roughed up a bit this year, it's not because he doesn't have the stuff, but because he needs to improve on something that can be improved upon.

Look at Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. All three of those guys got roughed up in their first dozen starts at the very least.

To me Folty is more of a reliever. But, if you think he has starter potential, send him to AAA for starts. If not, then put him in a higher leverage role in the minors, imo.

There's no doubt in my mind that he isn't ready. But I don't think he's going to be anything special anyway. He's a thrower with a very straight fastball, poor command and lacks consistency on his off-speed pitches too.

Nice hustle by Peterson, thankfully he didn't get hurt. Now he scores on a Freeman sac-fly thanks to that hustle play before hand.

I don't think I can be anymore excited than I am right now to watch Peterson this year. I pray he has a great carryover.

Well, Peterson didn't hit last ST and that carried over to MLB in a small sample. Hopefully this year his great ST will carry over too with a big rookie year.
