I'm fine with him being the 5th starter, but long reliever just makes absolutely no sense.
Struck me that way as well. Unless his clock is already ticking from his time in Houston?

Although there is a 80% chance it is just spring training noise, Dan Uggla looks like a man possessed right now. I saw him take an off speed pitch like a grownup.
Typo?
You are the kind of nonbelievers and you give it 80?
I'm personally not in the camp of folks who believe a young pitcher getting roughed him in his first year is the worst thing that can happen. I mean either the pitcher can handle it or he can't. Based on what Folty has already said in interviews he knows exactly what he needs to improve and that he needs to improve on it. So just looking at it logically he knows that if he gets roughed up a bit this year, it's not because he doesn't have the stuff, but because he needs to improve on something that can be improved upon.
Look at Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz. All three of those guys got roughed up in their first dozen starts at the very least.
Regardless of the arb clock, it doesn't appear that he's ready. JT really benefited from that extra time in the minors to refine his stuff and approach. Folty barely has two pitches. Seems like he REALLY needs that time.
I know it's only ST, but after watching Dan's at-bats over the last week or so, he does look much... much better.
Relief pitchers are the easiest things to replace
I don't think I can be anymore excited than I am right now to watch Peterson this year. I pray he has a great carryover.
Elite closers are not easy to replace, especially without spending money.
