Around Baseball 2015 Edition

I'm not worried about the Nats although I'm not in the camp that believes they are some super team like many pundits do.

Many of those great Braves teams during the run wouldn't start out so hot and struggle the first few weeks in April and end up with a losing record and get 4-5 games behind the Phillies or Expos only to turn things around in May and never look back at the division again by June 1st.

It's a long season, every game is important but it's early.

It might. It might not. Their offense could really struggle. So could ours. But theirs could, too.

My guess is Stanton and Prado will start hitting and that would make a huge difference for them. They've got a fairly balanced line-up and their pitching looks deep although not spectacular in Fernandez' absence. But you still have to play the games.

We have a lot of guys who haven't hit yet, either. Who is hitting besides Callaspo and CJ?
Prado could hit like he did in ARI last year (not too good) very easily.

I think they'll be ok. Every decent hitter they have is slumping right now and latos got tore up. I think they will win 78-82ish games.

I agree. I'm just saying, I don't see how they're clearly better. They have a lot of questions, too.

I think their ceiling is higher than ours. I've always liked Morse more than most and I think Stanton will hit. I don't know why Prado is ever batting clean-up, but Yelich is firmly ensconced in the place in the batting order best suited for Prado. I don't think much of Gordon and Saltalamacchia is turning into Dan Uggla, Jr. So I agree they've got some holes. They don't have the talent or mix of players to just mail it in, so they will have to play consistently to contend.

The Marlins have a lot more talent than us. I would rank the players like this:

1. Stanton
2. Yelich
3. Freeman
4. Ozuna
5. Simmons

Just more talent on their roster. Their OF is nasty.

No way I take Yelich over Freeman. I also think Ozuna could struggle offensively more than most think (Yelich is a safer bet there, IMO). Until Fernandez comes back and continues to dominate, I like our pitching better. They have plenty of guys who could be black holes offensively.

Personally I don't see the Marlins as any better than us.

Hard to disagree with how the season has gone this far, but you would be in the definite minority with that opinion.

But if Alvarez needs TJ and Fernandez struggles coming back then I don't think they stand much a chance. Their pitching doesn't have much depth at all.
