4/21/15 GDT: Markakis in the 2 spot / Gosselin tries to burn the Mets again

Yes, Maybin is having a career year so far. He should be starting without question

/ends sarcasm

Starting the far superior defender, the guy with a small chance of having some legitimate value to this or another team, over the worse defender with zero upside? That's a wiser choice, both for the purposes of the rebuild and for the product on the field.

/ends complete earnestness

Exactly.

Maybin probably shouldn't be hitting lead-off. You could probably go with something like Markakis-Gosselin/Peterson-Gomes-Freeman-Johnson-Maybin-Simmons-Bethancourt-Pitcher. Or not, it doesn't really matter that much.

I've been saying it all along.

We're in store for what's going to be one of the legendary managerial seasons of all-time.

Fredi gave EY a shot because of loyalty through spring and being here before Maybin. He gave EY time to show he wasn't starter material and also humbled Maybin into earning the spot.

Now EY knows his role is 4th OF/defensive guy and Maybin is building confidence as our CF.

The key is to keep Maybin driven by occasionally giving EYJ starts in LF and CF for no apparent reason.

Fredi is playing the small game.

He knows we won't score many runs, so EY will be a defensive replacement in the end of the game sometimes as early as the 7th so he may get an at-bat in a tie or close game so he needs AB's to stay sharp.

EYJ would make a great pinch runner late in a one run game, I'll give him that. I mean he could steal second and third a la Mallex Smith in AA and almost tie a game up himself if someone else gets a leadoff hit and you bring EYJ in to pinch run. The problem with EYJ is he has major issues getting on base himself. Which is too bad because I like his defense in LF a lot and his base stealing abilities.

That said, I doubt we'll get to see him do that much since in his non-starts he is usually brought in for defense in LF first.

#Braves great Chipper Jones was here today in clubhouse. He's in NY meeting with his book publisher.

How do I pre-order?

Personally, I'd love, at least against lefties:

Markakis RF
Peterson/Gosselin 2B
Gomes LF
Freeman 1B
CJoh 3B
Simba SS
Maybin CF
C-Beth C

Fredi has infested people with the idea of SUCK at the top of the lineup. It's so weird.

Now if he would just use that same logic at second base.
