Around Baseball 2015 Edition

Would y'all take a flyer on Grant Balfour on a minor league deal? I would, see if he can regain some velocity in AAA and then call him up later if so. He'd only cost the pro-rated portion of the league minimum if he has anything left. If so he can maybe be traded later or replace someone we trade and/or release later (Grilli being a trade candidate and JJ a release candidate).

I would take Balfour in a heartbeat.

Where can we watch the O's-White Sox game.

Interested to see with an empty stadium what the PA system does. Do they announce the players, play rally music, play cheesy sound effects during home runs etc.

It's the free game on MLB.tv. No PA/music/sfx from what I can tell.

Don't have a link handy, but just saw on Rotoworld that Anthony Varvaro was designated for assignment. Looks like he's allowed a lot of baserunners this year . . . 1.82 WHIP.

He looked like he has been having velocity issues again last time I saw him too. So not a huge surprise if that's continued. Further, it looks like Gondeee might want to re-think his best-to-worst trade ranking list now as he ranked the Vavaro trade our worst. Which I though was quite odd to say the least.

MLBTR has it now too: "The Red Sox have designated righty Anthony Varvaro, manager John Farrell announced on WEEI’s Dale & Holley radio show. Boston will call up lefty Tommy Layne and righty Dalier Hinojosa to add arms to the pen.

Varvaro, 30, had thrown 11 innings this year for the Red Sox after being acquired from the Braves over the winter. He struck out eight and walked six batters over that stretch while allowing five earned runs to cross the plate. Across six seasons in the big leagues, Varvaro has worked to a 3.23 ERA while posting 7.4 K/9 against 3.4 BB/9."

PS: It looks like we got the most out of Varvaro and traded him for something just in time.

So I definitely jumped the gun (what else is new) but Harper looks like he is ready to become the best player in baseball.

I still think he will end up being a better player than Trout. Trout just had a historic start to his career. Harpers ceiling is still higher as a hitter.

Dude, you can't really get much better than Trout has been. That would make Harper like the best player ever.

Purely in terms of hitting I think Harper will prove to be the better hitter.

Harper has historic level talent. He was slowed down by injuries some early in his career.

Trout definitely brings more value on defense and the basepaths though.

Alex Rodriguez in tears after tying Willie Mays. What say y'all?

I don't know where I stand on the AROD vs NYY saga... hate them both equally. I find myself rooting for AROD - which sucks
