Alberto Callaspo Possibly Being Traded

Unless that translates to "Braves get good minor leaguer" and "Dodgers get minor league depth," I don't understand this. Why the ever-loving hell would we give up any minor league talent for Juan Uribe?

It's so bloody pointless. Just DFA Callaspo, move on and let Gosselin and Adonis Garcia play when CJ doesn't.

Very confused......With Peterson and CJ and the option of bringing up Peraza........WHy would we give anything of value for Uribe?

Dodgers would save a little $ in pending uribe-callaspo trade. As @Ken_Rosenthal said callaspo must approve any trade til June 15

Thats a good thing for the Braves I think. Could potentially enhance the value of the prospect coming back.
 
The net cost difference between Uribe and Callaspo for the rest of the year is about $2.5m. The Dodgers probably want low-level minors guys that they don't need to put on the 40-man.

Uribe earning $6.5M, Callaspo $3M. #Dodgers would save some money in trade, sources say. Not known if they are including any cash in deal.
 
IIRC, the Dodgers are subject to the luxury tax so moving Uribe would save them more money than just his salary. Also, owners might be willing to heap money onto a team but they don't like to see that money go to waste in cutting a player with a high salary. Trading Uribe makes sense for the Dodgers in that regard.

I'm not a huge fan of Uribe but he did have a combined WAR of 8.1 over the last two seasons. So he's probably a better bet to turn things around and produce than Callaspo.

This, like the Cahill trade, will be one that the non-headliners will make or break. In the Cahill trade the Braves picked up a draft pick which made sense. The minor leaguers will be interesting to see here. If the Braves are taking on cash then I would expect the prospect we're getting back to be more valuable than any minor leaguers we're giving up.

While Uribe doesn't get me wet with anticipation. He was a very solid player the last 2 years. Providing very good offense (116 and 120 wRC+ respectively) and his usual great defense. The risk with him is he's never ever been consistent offensively. He's gone from sucking worse than BJ to great in a seasons span (not even joking, look at 2012 vs 2013) I think Uribe is basically th ecounterweight to CJ. While CJ will suck defensively but hit OK, Uribe will field alright and suck offensively.

The Braves better not take any cash on. We're not buyers. We should be using our bit of flexibility as a way to improve our minor league system. It was the idea behind the Cahill deal. Though that flamed out fantastically.

Then why not pay all of Callaspo's money if it gets us a better prospect?

I don't like this at all. Unless we're trading nobodies for a somebody on minor league level....position prospect

As others have said, it all depends on that prospect coming from LA. If he's possessive of a soupcon of decency then it could be worth it.
