While this is true, we can't forget that Mallex Smith is 22 and Peraza is already a level ahead of him at 21. Peraza showed fine on-base skills at Rome and is doing it again at Gwinnett.
Peraza's bat is supposed to be better than Smith's. We'll see if that holds true, but where Smith will probably have to get some walks to be effective since he'll probably hit .270 or below, Peraza has a legitimate chance to be a .300 major league hitter.
I love both guys and hope they both turn into studs. I'm just not sure why Braves fans are suddenly souring some on Peraza. The guy is a legit prospect. There's no one right now who is wondering if he can be a good major-league regular in the future.
I mean, good grief, we're calling a kid who is hitting well at AAA as a 21-year-old, who is a top 50 prospect, a potential liability at 2B? That's insane.
