6/10/15: GDT - San Diego Padres @ Atlanta Braves

See, y'all coming around. This series coming up with the Mets though looms large as one can in June. Get swept and all this mo gets flushed away, win the series and its game on. I thought after the Uggla bomb they would run off they haven't so things look good.

Everybody needs a change of outlook around here. Forget 2017. This is not about what the Braves are going to do two years from now. It's about what's going on now. This is a young team that is growing up in front of your eyes night in and night out and getting better by the day (bullpen excluded) and some of you could care less. It's '17 this and '17 that, do you think those 25 guys in that clubhouse give a rat's behind about 2017? I would say no! As far as the competition, it's us, the Nats, and the Mets. The Marlins stuck a fork in themselves when they fired Redmond. They are done. The Nats for all that talent are like we were last year, very talented, not much of a team. They won't run and hide anytime soon. I don't think the Mets have run off and hide in them either. They are good but certainly not by leaps and bounds better than the Braves. The race is on....

And yet, this "young" team is quite a bit older average age-wise than last year's team. The only young players we have are Peterson and the guys in the rotation, although they will likely get younger as the season progresses. Let's not act like this is the 'Baby Braves'.

Ok so you don't count Simba, CB, Cunniff, and Freddie as young...alrighty then.

Freddie and Simmons have been around a while, and they're both 26. CB, sure.

Either watch, this team is filled with old guys and isn't nearly as young as last year's team. I'm simply pointing out your hypocrisy.

Ok maybe I should have said "young core" does that work better for you, Professor? And yes, Freddie and Simba are still very young to these 42 year old eyes. They are both still well under 30 and I dare say neither have had their "career year" yet. What you call "hypocrisy" I consider objectivity.

We used to own the Pads. I remember we used to go Petco and it was almost a guaranteed sweep.

Now they've been really annoying against us.

The point is, you talk about how this team is growing and hasn't reached its full potential. Yet, you acted as if last year's team was incapable of that, despite being younger and more talented.

No, the point is, last year's team didn't give a da-- whether it won or lost. The record spoke for itself. You do realize that had they played what became their norm later in the year in April they would have finished double digits under .500, don't you? They just strutted around like peacocks after that hot start that was basically smoke and mirrors because the pitching was insane the first month. The clubhouse was a mess for some reason, my money is on the Uptons and possibly a rift between the pro Uggla side and the dump Uggla side. Could be that they just hated Frank's guts and tanked on purpose, I don't know. None of us do, but there is one thing I do know games are not won on paper they are won on the field and this team keeps getting better and better. If they can stabilize the sixth and seventh that 87 win total I predicted in March is not only attainable this team will exceed it if the improvement continues.

Unless the pen significantly improves this team is not competing this year. And even if it does improve we are only competing for a division title. We can't compete yet with the Cards/Dodgers/Giants. But, I agree this is no longer about 2017. Braves are ready to be legit contendors in 2016 for sure.

I am glad that we are trying/signing quite a few different options in the bullpen... seeing if someone sticks. At least they aren't just accepting the terrible pen and putting up with it. If the pen issue can be fixed just a little bit, all of the sudden we have an interesting team.

don't like playing these games.
if the nats have rendon all year, how many games in first are they?

I guess...still fun to think about because a bullpen can be improved with little prospect investment over the course of a season.

I think that's up for debate. They are still going to have to find options for LF, C, 3B, and possibily CF. The production we have gotten from those spots to date could very well not be there next season.

For starters, no team is perfect so not all those spots need to be filled with good players. Also, our outfield next year is going to be markakis/Smith/Maybin. I'd also bring Uribe back for another season. The offense is working the way it is now. The bullpen will need to be adressed big time. I'd bring in a proven closer on a 2-3 year deal.
