6/13/15: GDT - Atlanta Braves @ NY Mets

OK, it's just how you made this move out to be worse than not bringing in Kimbrel in the NLDS. I mean I would've let it go but I thought that was overkill. I am fine that we disagree on the kid Perez though. Further, I am glad you are back posting as you're a favorite poster of mine too. No hard feelings bro.

Maybe it was overkill but I -I know I will take the wrath and I'm one of the few- didn't/don't have a problem with Gonzalez going to Carpenter in the 8th. He'd been brilliant all year and succeeded/flourished in the 8th inning role and Kimbrel had struggled pitching multiple innings (the Red Sox in Boston game comes to mind). If we replay -ugghh I never want to do this- that inning 10 times, we have the lead (or a tie game) 9 out of 10 times. If we replay today's scenario 10 times, Perez gets the save in 8 of those. Maybe it was overkill and a result of Gonzalez's poor use of the bullpen this year.

How have Aardsma and Eveland looked so far?

Aardsma looked fine his first appearance but gave up a steal and add-on run last night charged to Wood. Eveland first appearance came against a righty in a tough spot and today he gave up a wild pitch and double for a run (charged to Miller) without getting an out.

I think it was a risky and dangerous move but I like it. Just shows Perez that his manager had confidence in him (if that means anything coming from Fredi). Perez is better from this, that's for sure.

Maybe he had to put him in to showcase him to all those scouts that are there wasting there time to see Gee pitch tomorrow for some strange fckn reason.

Did you catch when Gonzalez admitted last year that he had made a mistake not going to Kimbrel (after initially insisting otherwise)? I found that interesting. My take then and now is the same, Carpenter had been great but mostly in low-leverage situations for the better part of that season and despite some initial success I never trusted him in the higher leverage situations. I looked at him a lot like Varvaro, someone very good in low-leverage but you're pushing it having him in high-leverage situations regularly (esp. in the playoffs). Plus Carpenter had almost blown the Braves first playoff win giving up a two-run bomb to Ramirez.

That said, now that David Carpenter is a Nat and Uribe is a Brave I hope to see a instant replay of that shot by Uribe off Carpenter vs Washington. :)

Haha that would be something. I wish we would have made every possible effort to get Carp back from NYY.

According to Fangraphs AJ now has a -7 DRS which is the worst among all catchers in MLB. While Bethancourt has a 5 DRS, which is tied for the third highest in all of MLB among catchers.

If y'all think we'll be able to trade AJ I think you'll be disappointed unless someone desperate for a back-up gives us almost nothing in return.

Gwinnett starts Cody Martin today (Sunday), but no one in particular for Monday. Wonder what the chances are for ManBan to get an emergency start call up on Monday?

I'm stunned to see Bethancourt so high, but not surprised to see Pierzynski that low. CB has a low sample of innings of course, and I think DRS also weighs fielding and SB prevention pretty heavily for catchers (this suits CB well). Maybe my negative view of his defensive based on the eye test has been a little, well, short-sighted. The passed balls and lack of effort blocking balls in the dirt is bugging the hell out of me though.

They've gotten up off the mat twice this week, but also p*ssed a game (or two) away. I just don't know where to put his team in the whole scheme of things.
