Around Baseball 2015 Edition

It's ridiculous the amount of people wanting Heyward to fail just so we can 'win' the trade.

Both teams can win a trade though. As they both can lose a trade too. Right now the trade has worked out well for both teams given Jason's recent play.

I think we need to pump the brakes on the revisionism a tad. Did some people question the return we got? Sure. That's natural, and time will tell that story. I think the major beef (speaking for myself, and probably many others) was if it was a missed opportunity not to extent him when we might have had a chance to do so.

I dont believe that world exists as the Braves could not have extended that size of a contract to a player who has shown the amount of inconsistent that Heyward has shown.

Not with our financial situation at that time, but we can afford him given our current financial situation.

Hopefully Freddie does a bang up job recruiting him in 4 months.

Andruw was inconsistent too. And Heyward is a 5-6 WAR player right now whether you want to believe that or not.

And I don't pay the premium that Heyward will make for defense in RF. A position up the middle? Yes please

Until Heyward shows consistency in offense I'm not going to be the franchise that doles out 20+M a year.

And I'd argue that WAR puts way too much emphasis on defense... Along with many sabermetrics gurus.

I disagree. Defensive WAR works on a historical level just as it does currently. Players like Ozzie Smith and Brooks Robinson were put into the HOF based on their defense. Their defensive WAR numbers back up what people saw at that time. That they were revolutionary defenders and deserved to be enshrined. The numbers backed it up then and they most certainly work now.

That would be nice but I think that bridge is burned.

I wouldn't be surprised if that were the case, but I also don't see any reason to assume it is either. The only person connected to the Braves that has ever uttered anything negative concerning Heyward is DOB, and I don't think that carries any weight at all. It seems that the split was rather amicable.

But I could be wrong. There might be mutual resentment that no long term extension was worked out. I just don't think anybody really knows what exactly that situation is.

Defense matters at all positions. Other wise why are you trying to compare WAR with Justin and Jace. If LF defense doesn't matter then why penalize Justin for what WAR says how bad he is?

Well I think a franchise player is elite in both areas. Maybe you have a less stringent definition of a franchise player than I do.
