You've been hired as GM

I think this is pretty much the best generic plan for this offseason. The quality and length of control of those upgrades can vary so dramatically that we should witness the most interesting Braves offseason I can remember. This team is finally loaded with so many resources, both in talent and financially, that literally any move is a very real possibility.

I used to completely dismiss the idea of signing an Ace like Price, but the more I think about it, the more I realize it might be a possibility. Hart's "right player, wrong time" comment about Lester last offseason makes me think someone like Price could be the right player at the right time. If a significant amount of the MLB-ready pitching is used to acquire a long term asset like Lucroy, or a cheap young impact player, then I could definitely see the Braves making a push to sign a TOR guy.

I've always thought the reason you devote a lot of draft picks and other resources developing homegrown pitchers is to avoid the risk entailed in the contracts given out to guys like Sabathia and Scherzer. Other teams with deeper pockets can take on those kinds of contracts. I don't think it works for us, even with the bump up in revenues from the new ballpark.

I am trading all major league talent for young unproven pitchers. Preferably ones who have had Tommy John surgery.

I agree. I would probably ride young arms until they got expensive or injured, and then trade or release them. The only reason I could see them sign someone like Price is they were seriously in the hunt for Lester last offseason.

Lester was doing them a favor and heard the Braves out. The Braves wanted Lester at a smaller contract amount. Lester was being nice and the Braves were never actually in on him.

Rotation- Julio, Miller, Wisler, Perez, ManBan.

I'd trade Wood and a few others for a bat.

Lineup wise, i'm not sure, Lucroy is a good target.

I just don't like that rotation. It's fine, but it's not one that's going to truly compete, IMO. I don't think Perez is an answer, and both he and Banuelos would wear out the bullpen.

If we don't have a true ace, then we need at least 3 guys who are good #2-type pitchers. Teheran is that when right, though he hasn't been this year. Miller can be that, and Wood is that. That remains to be seen from the rest. I just think relying on Teheran after this year, Miller, and 3 unknowns (especially when two aren't extremely highly thought-of) is risky at best.

I think if we traded one of Teheran, Miller, or Wood (I wouldn't trade any of them personally), then it's imperative that we sign a high-end FA. You can fill the last 2 spots with young guys (Wisler/Banuelos/Folty/Jenkins), but filling 3 spots is asking a lot. I'd rather have a great rotation and an average offense than put out an average or slighly better rotation and try to spend or trade enough to get a great offense.

Isn't the idea of this thread to be realistic though?

Signing a free agent pitcher who actually is worth something isn't likely because it's not the Braves way. While I don't necessarily like that rotation, I think it's going to be very close to those five guys.

I was tired, and was half-awake, if you saw my updated one, it has Miller, Julio, Kazmir, Wisler, Ban/Perez as the rotation.

If we trade a pitcher, i think we'll buy a SP, just dont see us in on the Greinke, Zimmerman, Cueto, Price sweepstakes.

I'll give it a whirl!

I'd trade Alex Wood - LHP, Michael Foltynewicz - RHP and Tyrell Jenkins - RHP to the Dodgers for Yasiel Puig - OF

Trade Julio Teheran, Christian Bethancourt and Lucas Sims to the Brewers for Jonathan Lucroy and Will Smith

Sign David Price - 7 yrs/180 mil

Resign Juan Uribe - 2 yrs/10 mil

Resign Kelly Johnson - 1 yr/2 mil

Resign A.J. Pierzynski - 1 yr/2 mil

Release Chris Johnson

Fire Fredi Gonzalez

Hire Terry Pendleton

Lineup:
Maybin - CF
Markakis - LF
Freeman - 1B
Puig - RF
Lucroy - C
Peterson - 2B
Uribe - 3B
Simmons - SS

Bench:
Pierzynski - C
K. Johnson - Super Utility
Ciriaco - IF
Terdoslovich - OF/1B
Cunningham - OF

Rotation:
Price - LHP
Miller - RHP
Wisler - RHP

W. Perez - RHP

Bullpen:
Winkler - LRP
McKirahan - LOOGY
Vizcaino - MRP
Withrow - MRP
Simmons - SUP
W. Smith - LHSUP
Grilli - CP

That would be a very competitive team!

I've seen puig, Braun, and lucroy listed as possible trade guys. Is there any reason to think these guys are available? I would love to have all or any of them

Lucroy might be available. The others are the typical pipe dreams of the board members.

You're one peach of sunshine.

I know.

Just no reason to expect the Braves make a splash on either the trade or free agent front. It's clear Hart and his minions hate major league talent. They want to try and compete with young players who are cheap.

All 3 have been the subject of various trade rumors.

The Brewers might want to unload Braun, but they wouldn't eat any salary. It would take a huge haul to pry Lucroy away...something along the lines of CB, Peraza and one of Folty or Wisler just to get the ball rolling.

Puig is supposedly a huge pain in the ass, and he would take a lot of talent to acquire. A package even bigger than the one I listed for Lucroy most likely.
