Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Figured we should be expecting to sell now... So let's make one thread... saw this today which I found interesting:

Sources: #Braves, #Indians discussed trade of Chris Johnson for Nick Swisher in early June, before Swisher went on DL with knee issue…

#Braves backed off due to disparity in 2015 salaries (Swisher $15M, Johnson $6M). Swisher now owed ~$22M thru 16, Johnson ~$20M thru 17.

#Indians’ Swisher remains on DL. #Braves’ Johnson remains a likely candidate for trade.

Hart is dumb enough to add salary and a player who isn't eligible to play. Sounds like a deal in the making.

This just tells me what I already knew, the Braves are desperate to get rid of Chris Johnson. But even so there could have been cash and/or a prospect we like coming our way to off-set or even up the deal.

If we trade uribe and CJ, we could find ourselves in a mess at 3b next season if we can't work out a trade

If the Braves have more interest in bringing back AJ then Uribe, then their front office still needs some changes IMO. I know AJ is like family to Hart but he needs to cut that crap out, give Bethancourt his shot soon and move AJ ASAP. Uribe has been a great pick-up so if we trade him they should try to bring him back next year. But I rather re-sign him now because if not the team he's traded to likely does IMO.

I don't think trading them will have much of an effect on whether we sign them in the off-season.

CJ isn't a free agent as you know, so that protects any team dumb enough to sign him outside of his current team that's trying to move him.

Jimmy Johns is pretty logical to deal.

Im not against dealing Maybin for the right offer but i'd prefer to keep him unless a team really overpayed.

The rest depends on the offers.

We definitely need to play Bethancourt every day after the deadline. Just get what we can for AJ. I want to see Bethancourt get a shot

BTW, I cannot help but wonder what we missed out on in a trade that included both Grilli and Jim Johnson. Braves apparently were considering moving both together for a bigger return before Grilli's injury.

This is exactly what I kept coming back to after reading Bowman's story. Really sucks.

I expect Jim Johnson to go. He's the most likely. Kelly will grab some interest. Chris, well, not sure about that. Braves haven't had much luck trading him. I do expect there to be at least some interest in Gomes. Jonny doesn't have much value as an everyday player, but contending teams are ALWAYS looking for bench help at the deadline. Gomes fits that bill.

None of these guys will likely bring a top ten prospect from any trade partner, but sometimes, these types of trades can be a benefit that nobody sees coming. Think about when the Red Sox traded for Astros reliever Larry Anderson back in 1990, I think it was. Anderson did nothing basically for Boston while the player Houston got, who many saw as a marginal prospect, was Jeff Bagwell. Just a little food for thought.

Chris Johnson's days here are numbered one way or another, it's a safe bet that he won't be with the Braves come next season. He may not get traded before the deadline, but come next ST I'm expecting him gone.
