Trade Deadline/Rumors thread

Zunino is a great example of how even the most highly rated prospects can fail. All we heard about since he was drafted was how he was going to be the best catcher in the major leagues.

If #Mariners get a C, it won't be Dioner Navarro. Per @ShiDavidi, #BlueJays aren't other club involved. Updated post: http://bit.ly/1CHmhJv

Agreed. But I would love to take a shot on Zunino.

The M's are also looking for BP help. I wonder what a package of JJ and AJ could realistically get in return?

They have interesting RHed power prospects like DJ Peterson (very unlikely), Alex Jackson (also unlikely), Gabriel Guerrero (Vlad's nephew), Austin Wilson, as well as a catching prospect that profiles as an MLB regular in Tyler Marlette.

Sources: Mariners and Braves discussed deal involving A.J. Pierzynski, but he's not the catcher Seattle is close to acquiring. @FOXSports

They actually moved Guerrero to the Diamondbacks in the Trumbo deal.

Talked with multiple sources with the M's and have been told that there isn't a trade that's "close."

There are far better examples than Mike Zunino. Zunino was barely a top 25 prospect. Better examples would be Weiters or Jesus Montero; those guys had some production in the minors. Zunino had 1 year in A/A0 that was great and then hit .227 as a 22 year old in the PCL (over 52 games)

But, as someone who hypes up prospects as much as anyone, this is something for you to keep in mind.

Guerrero was traded to Arizona in the Trumbo deal.

Austin Wilson is slashing .195/.293/.290/.583 in Hi-A.

In the event you meant to type Marcus Wilson, he'd be a great target, but not someone I'd think they'd be willing to give up to rent Pierzynski for 3 months.

It looks like Miguel Sano is almost ready. The Twins have needs for catcher, OF, and reliever. We should be able to work out a deal including Uribe to finish out the season for them to get Plouffe back. He'd be a nice guy to throw at 3B for the next few years.

Uribe and what exactly? Plouffe is a well liked player in Minnesota. They aren't trading him for the second oldest third sacker in the game.
