I'm surprised they got Sean Manaea for Zobrist

Yeah, me too. It sure seems like KC has overpayed a bit for both Cueto and Zobrist. It's cool they are going for it, but I'd be pretty uneasy if I was a KC fan.

Definitely. I really like Zobrist but he's up there and having the worst year of his career. Still capable of turning it around though, and the Royals are going for it.

Too bad we couldn't get the Mets to overpay. Like what the A's got for Zobrist.

One potentially Brave-related angle is that Zobrist will not be attached to a draft pick this off-season. I think he is a potential target for us.

Wow, Sean Manaea + for Zobrist? Didn't see that coming.....KC is going to be an extremely tough postseason out now.

I don't think "going for it" like this usually works out. They didn't "go for it" last year and made the World Series. They obviously improved, but I'd be scared, too.

Has turned it around. OPS of .879 in June and .810 so far in July.

Wow, the DBacks decisions are just weird . . . bordering on crazy.

Sources: Diamondbacks, Reds are talking about Aroldis Chapman. D'backs doing due diligence on him. Ask is huge, but may be something there.

Eh, Cueto still has a year left on this deal after this, as for Zo....I'm shocked they gave up Sean Manaea but if Zo keeps up his 800+ OPS then it's worth it.

They kept their top 2 prospects in Mondesi and Zimmer , they didn't trade a top 50 prospect. Fin is projecting as a RP and Sean Manaea has big injury question marks.

Yeah, he's hitting well but his defense has been a negative this year according to FG and he's only at 1.1 fWAR. But yeah, I could see him picking it up and being really good from here on out. Most importantly, he's a veteran leader.

The repaired knee is probably costing him some on defense. An off-season of rest might help. Hard to say. The A's have played him a lot at second, which is a tough position for a guy coming off knee surgery.

This isn't close to his worst year....he has a 801 OPS / 125 wRC+ / 179 ISO / 347 wOBA

Sure the WAR isn't going to be there because he missed a ton of games but he's having his normal season, better than his previous two, actually.

High price, but going for broke means paying if you have to.

I guess. I really don't see Zobrist as a huge difference maker at this stage of his career -- or at least one worthy of that kind of package.

Baseball America ranked Raul Mondesi Jr., Brandon Finnegan and Sean Manaea as #Royals 1-2-3 prospects this yr. Two now gone.

Finnegan looks like a RP though and neither Fin nor Manaea were in the BA midseason top 50.

Cueto is a FA after this year.

Perhaps with the bat, but it's been far worse overall (fWAR-wise, anyway) than his previous two. He'd be on pace for about a 2.7 WAR over 162 games at his current production. His other injury year, in 2008, he was at 1.5 fWAR in 62 games.
