1) I wasn't one of those who thought our savings in Uribe-Johnson was all that great. I don't like either guy we got back in that deal and feel like we could have done better.
2) This is unrelated to whether they should trade AJ. Bethancourt is at AAA because the Braves want him there to work on his defense and game calling. If we traded AJ I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up either bringing up someone else or signing a veteran catcher to take his spot. I understand wanting to put Bethancourt in at catcher but the Braves will do that when they want. If they wanted to do it right now then having AJ isn't going to stop them.
3) You can't get mentorship from anyone. Look at last year's team. This is doubly true for catchers who have to work with the rotation. The Braves have a very, very young rotation and there was concern about Bethancourt's ability in this department. I have no problem keeping AJ for the benefit of the rotation.
In any event, we probably don't have to trade AJ today. There's a good chance he gets through waivers.
I agree.
I disagree. Bethancourt is at AAA because the Braves are trying to motivate him. He doesn't need 'work' on his defense or game calling. He's in the doghouse.
I'm looking, and I still don't get what you are referring to -- especially in comparison to this year's team. How has AJ been a mentor? Have you read any quotes about young pitchers raving about his ethic or the chance to work with him? Can you even point to pitchers that are enjoying incredible results working with him exclusively? This is a weak argument. We're not talking about David Ross here.
I like AJ. I wouldn't be totally opposed to bringing him back next year. But I don't see any reason whatsoever to hang onto him this year.
I doubt it. There hasn't been much movement on the C market so far, could be one of those 15 minutes before the deadline PTBNL deals.
The only way I want AJ back is if he replaces Fredi as manager.

There is some speculation within the industry about a possible BOS/Cubs/Padres three-way blockbuster taking shape. Lots of pieces that fit.

Rumor has it the Dodgers are going to trade their disabled list for the entire 25 man Braves roster.

Seems quiet on the Braves front right now.
