I highly doubt it. when was the last time the Braves signed a top tier free agent? Maybe the 90's, lol.

There are 20 players int he majors this year that are above average hitters at the age of 32 or older. The vast majority of them are 1B or DH or corner OF. The ones that aren't:

Arod

Peralta

Escobar

Kinsler

Cano

Freese

It's sort of a lot to ask. It shrinks drastically as you get older. But, hey, hopefully he can reverse the aging process without PEDS.

I get your thinking, but I don't see any way the Indians part with arguably their top prospect (Frazier) to dump contracts. The fan base would be livid. Imagine how we'd feel

That graph also includes thousands of players who weren't really good in the first place. I think there is a vastly different production curve when you are only considering players who are actually talented.

That's not really true. It's all relative, so a player who is better at 28 is likely to still be better at 33, but both players would have likely regressed similarly when compared to their prime.

I dont think the rate of decline is going to be similar prsoanlly but I have no way of backing that up. I'd like to know if any studies exist on that subject.

1. We don't know if Olivera is a good player
2. Bad players don't typically hang around for their 30s.

The FA market in 2017 isnt near as good as this years.

So im kinda perplexed to not spend some.

Justin goes into too many prolonged slumps to pay him 200+ mil.

I wouldnt mind Cespedes but the years is what concerns me.

I'd love Heyward back but i think that ship has sailed unfortunately.

If they land an ace, then thats a whole new ballgame.
 
thethe will refuse to admit that the olivera trade made absolutely no sense... We traded a huge amount of talent in hopes that we can count on Olivera at age 32
 
Only thing with Heyward as yeezus and others mentioned is we need some power hitters, at this point he isnt that.

Maybe he'll get his power back again but as of now he's more of a #2 hitter.

Alex Gordon would be interesting but worry about the years there.
