8/12/2015: MLB Thread Wednesday, Wisler seeking 6th win; Braves seek run(s)

I cannot recall which names exactly either but I agree that the slot money improves that deal for our side too.

Baez is the standout among the group we added soon after that trade. Ventura came much later. Those two are the outstanding signings by the new front office regime during the last international period. Actually there two or three others doing very well in the DSL but not receiving much attention yet. That's not bad when you consider the main guys had been signed long before. The international slot money we traded for looks to have been well used.

Vizcaino is showing why trading Kimbrel was the right decision. Unless a team has a Yankee-esque payroll paying 10+ mill a year to a closer is not a good use of resources when you consider what you can get for trading them plus how easy it is to replace them. We should be developing top end relief arms and trading them when they get expensive/close to free agency.

Its very nice to have Vizcaino back on the team and doing well. Let's just hope he can stay healthy and clean! When right, he could be a devastating closer.

I am curious how the Braves will approach the closer spot next year. Especially if we're pretending to be contenders.

I think Simmons is best. But will we go with Grili off injury? Simmons off injury? Or does Viz have it assuming he does well this year?

I was really skeptical of Viz, because of his injury history and how willing the cubs were to cut bait on him. So far, it looks like I was way wrong.

I think Grilli is the guy just for the sake of pumping up his value for trade.

I keep waiting for the implosion inning but we aren't getting it. He's had innings where he has allowed a few runners, but he's handled the pressure really well. I like what I'm seeing, that's for sure!

I think Grili has proven he can handle the closer duties

And if he suddenly loses his job after surgery at close to 40, teams will think there is a reason behind that and he will lose value. You REALLY don't think a player's perceived value is somewhat controlled by the team that decides when and how to use him?

I think that a team who would be trading for Grili wouldn't be trading for him to be their closer... just like Jim Johnson

But the Braves would be trading a closer, not an ex-closer. It makes a difference.

Only to a really dumb team.

That's not true. Hell, look at how Olivera not making the Dodgers over a couple of their players changed our perception of his value. You don't think that works at different levels? It's just human nature.
