Around Baseball 2015 Edition

I see that Carlos Gomez is clowning it up again. The Yankees were probably wrong in this situation to yell at him, but this clown truly doesn't know how to play the game the right way.

What exactly did Gomez do that was wrong? Baseball is becoming really stupid with this ****

Mets got some mojo going right now.

Saw Nats setting up their rotation in a few weeks to have Stras, Scherzer, Zimm go.

They pretty much have to sweep.

I'd be all kinds of surprised if the Nats ended up winning the division over the mets. They have so much depth and with the offense actually clicking, they're really strong. But, they are the Mets...

More and more lately it seems that "play the right way" is code for playing while white.
I would say it's more like playing 'the white way' than playing 'the right way', and certainly not 'playing while white'. Harper sure draws his share of criticism.

It seems it's been going on since ancient times, with the Greeks believing in a more team oriented philosophy and the Trojans, exemplified by Achilles and his infamous temper tantrum, displaying the individualist, or Latin approach.

Yeah. Good point.

This thread has taken a serious downturn.

I would love for someone to explain to me what playing baseball 'the white way' is, and why you believe it is playing 'the white way'.

I haven't usually sided with Gomez when he gets upset, but in this case, it didn't appear to me he did anything wrong. Someone in the Yankees dugout needs to get over what ever it was I think.

The idea is that white players are more glued into the team concept and less inclined to hotdog it. And that Black and Latin players are more likely to advance themselves personally. It's a generalization and in reality anyone can fall in either group; Pete Maravich was the biggest hotdog ever. Is white culture more conforming, while black culture more individually expressive? Did you ever watch soul train?

White folks distinguish themselves by following the rules, by dancing the way you're expected to, so to speak. A black girl says, Let me get up here and shake MY ass. I dunno how much this plays out on the baseball field but I doubt I'm the first person to joke that playing the "right way' is playing the white way.

OTOH, Japanese players are the most conservative of all. They treat the field like sacred ground and aren't supposed to ever spit or drop trash in the dugout, much less draw attention to themselves.

I wonder if anyone has ever tried to catalog all the so called 'unwritten rules'. Some of them seem kinda vague.

There was an espn article about it a few years ago after our McCann stuff. One was walking over the pitchers mound (Braden and A-Rod). I'll try to find it.
