2016 Draft Position

It is deep, not great.

This is what I was reading: http://www.baseballamerica.com/college/ask-ba-mix-go-1-2016-draft/

"There is no clear, slam-dunk top draft prospect like there was when Stephen Strasburg or Bryce Harper were readying for their final amateur seasons.

There’s not really even someone such as lefthander Carlos Rodon, who was putting a stamp on the top of the draft two summers ago with a dominating outing against the Cuban National Team."

We do have a few candidates that we can pick from, but it seems no elite talent.

That article was written 10 months before the 2016 Draft starts. If you'll go back 8 months before the 2014 Draft, there was a "no-doubt, slam-dunk #1 pick"...

Things change pretty quickly at the top of draft boards - 10 months is a LONG time.

I hope we don't get hot and screw this up. I'd hate to have suffered through this season for nothing.

Have that feeling somewhere deep down that we're going to rip off like 5 out of 7 at some point too - just figure Freddie will have one more hot stretch - with our luck, 2 or 3 other guys will get hot at the same time.

There may not be a generational, obvious top pick yet at this point, but in no way does that mean there is 'no elite talent'. That's insane.

Kris Bryant went #2 and wasn't thought of in the same way as the 3 mentioned in your quote. Nor was Kyle Schwarber, or Carlos Correa, or David Price, or Gerrit Cole...do you not consider those guys elite talents?

Why does it matter at this point? If the current Hart was in charge in 1990 Van Poppel would have been the guy. Then again, probably not, as I don't believe he had Tommy John yet....so he'd probably just forfeit the pick to acquire a 60 year old Cuban who no one has ever seen before.

Considering that John Hart actually listens to his scouts, there is very little doubt that Chipper Jones would have still been the pick, and the Braves will make another great pick in the 2016 draft whether they pick 1st or 5th. Unlike Frank Wren, who will let his brother convince him to take some obscure player from a Division 3 school.

The only Top 10 draft pick Wren had was Minor.

I feel like Kolb is the pitching coach now. Fredi is still the manager, of course.

I do regret the possibility that we're giving the Gnats some much needed confidence and momentum. If they end up winning the division after all, I may puke.

I find it really hard to believe we have 8 more wins in us. 100 losses should give us a real shot at the top pick.

Remaining schedule after today. How do you see each series playing out?

3 @ philly
4 vs mutts
3 vs blue jays
3 vs philly
3 @ mutts
3 @ Marlins
3 vs nits
3 vs cardinals (nothing like heyward coming in to help us secure the top pick)
