Simmons dealt to Angels for two top pitchers, Aybar

Of all the trades we've made over the past few years, even the ones where most hate the trade, there have always been at least a few that like the trade... until this one. I've not seen one post anywhere that even resembles even just disliking this trade. 100% of the posts have hated this one. It is simply that bad. Unbelievable.

My question is where do we go for offense at this point...?

Oh god, now the thought of how bad we will be next year is scary...

Maybe Coppy wants the #1 pick and was mad we didn't get it?

Aybar is a switch-hitter, was a 2014 all-star, a 2011 Gold Glover and he doesn't suffer stupid nagging injuries caused by bad baserunning and poor sliding technique. As good a time to trade Simmons as any.

(Aybar played in at least 137 games every year since 2009).

For a one year swap it's not that bad. Aybar has in the past been a very productive player and could be better than Simmons in 2016. The real issue is Simmons has 5 years left on his deal while Aybar is a FA after 2016. The Braves are essentially putting their hopes and dreams on Albies being the SS of the future. But as it stands now the Braves have yet another hole to fill after 2016.

Newcomb as a centerpiece is great. That dude is a future ace and could be up this year. My problem is yet again not getting an offensive piece back for the future. you would think the overall package would be better to make this deal on November 12th though. But again, Newcomb is an absolute stud.

Overall this is a good deal and would be happy with it if this was later in the offseason. Just thought the secondary pieces would be better this early.

Agreed that Newcomb seems good but we've gotten soooooooooooooo much pitching in trades back, an elite or some good hitting/ML ready bats would seem fair.

Not complaining.

I don't see how you magically are playoff contenders in 17....who would want to sign here?

2017 Braves

SS Toussaint

CF Jenkins

3b Riley (pitched in HS right?)

1B Folty

2B Wisler

RF Bird

C Pierzynski (1 year/15 million)

Rotation

Miller

Fried

Teheran

Minor

Free agent journeyman

Bench

Soroka

Gant

Whalen

Sims

Sanchez

Pen

Closer Vizcaino

Winkler

Paco

Withrow

Simmons (Shae not that bozo in Anaheim)

Perez

Burawa

That team is DEEP and cheap, allows us to trade albies, Freeman and mallex for pitching depth to restock minors. DFA all other current position players.

Thoughts?

Newcomb seems like he could be the real deal, problem as emk said is we havent gotten much/any hitting in return for the players dealt.

There relies the problem.

Wrong. And wrong.

At this point you have to trade Miller and Teheran. Miller will be a free agent before we are even on the brink of being competitive again....

Hell after a 5-17 year with a 3 ERA we would be putting him out of his misery

Then you trade Freeman

We are going to have a team of pitchers who throw nothing but no hitters

This is a legit position. Unless the Braves can get Miller to sign an extension that takes out 2-3 years of his FA years then right now is the absolute right time to trade him. It's likely the most trade value he will ever have due to the season he just had plus the years he has left before being a FA.

Will give my detailed opinion on deal later (some will crush me because I actually like the deal) but is it possible to sign Ian Desmond to play SS and move to 3B when Albies is ready? Assuming they trade Aybar of coarse.

Completely agree. I want offense. Hopefully we package some pitching like Baneulos, Sims, Jenkins, Perez now for offense

That you wasted about 30 minutes of your life that you won't get back.

What exactly did we lose today besides defense?

Bc once again we traded for pitching and more pitching. If you're gonna trade something trade pitching not your cheap SS. And right now why would Miller sign an extension here?? Thought so.

The reason this deal was made so early is likely because it's only the first move of many. The off season moves are far from over.

Have a little patience fer chrissakes.

Best clip I could find of Newcombe...

Fastball sits around 92 to 94 not...didn't look too impressive in the clip
