What's next?

"2 Top 100 guys" plus Inciarte is what the Braves got for Miller - Inciarte's not coming close to getting you 2 Top 100 guys.

Then don't trade him. Simple as that really.

And the Braves got a top 10 guy and a top 75 guy in addition to Inciarte for Miller. That's a HUGE difference from "2 top 100 guys", or "1 top 50 guy".

The package doesn't even have to include Soler. I would gladly take McKinney and one of Underwood/Almora/Happ for Inciarte. I wouldn't even think twice about it either. And I would take Swanson over that entire package. I don't think people fully understand just how much value the DBacks gave up for Miller.

is that really a need going into the playoffs?? a half of season rental of a slap hitting short stop?? Just doesn't seem to scream, putting my team over the top..

If you don't have a viable SS, then absolutely. If teams want him now, then teams will want him then.

The guy was still a 2+ WAR player even last year. If you don't think we're likely to get anything at the deadline, then we're not going to get anything now, either.

There's some psychology to having Aybar as well. After trading away Heyward they wanted a name out there to lessen the blow in Markakis. After trading away Simmons they probably assume Aybar is easier to digest than a guy like Castro is to the average fan who knows names more than stats.

If you think Aybar is capable of getting a return good enough to justify a trade now, then the same should be true at the deadline as well. If you don't think Aybar is capable of getting much of a return back, then it doesn't really matter much if we trade him or not.

It's that simple.

he has one year of control left. he is a perfect bridge for a team who might compete but needs a SS to get through the season.. There are not many teams like this, so our market will be small to be able to trade him.. I don't think we would get much for him personally.

Take a team like the Tribe.. They have good pieces and could use an upgrade at Shortstop. I think they have a kid in the minors who should be ready next year.. Aybar could fit for them.. but I don't think the Tribe will just stand pat this offseason and then suddenly think they need another option at SS at the break..No, they will address that now.. before the season starts..

But the upside to waiting is that you could end up with a team that suddenly is competing and is more desperate, therefore more willing to give up something legitimate for him. And there's always the chance for injuries and other circumstances.

We just need to sit back and wait right now. Let other teams come to us, knowing that we're willing to listen on anything, and overpay.

I don't think people fully understand just how much value the DBacks gave up for Miller.

This, again.

Saying, 'we got two good prospects plus Inciarte for Miller, so we're not going to get two good prospects for just Inciarte,' doesn't make much sense. The Diamondbacks gave all of that to us, so it's entirely plausible someone could value Inciarte that highly.

If we had both Miller and Inciarte and the best offer we were getting for both was Swanson and Blair, that would be a better argument. As is, all it proves is that the D-Backs are really dumb.

Honestly, I would have been happy with just Swanson for Miller.

Do you even Francisco Lindor, bro?

he may have been the guy I thought was coming up next year.. not sure..I don't follow AL teams too much..
more to the point that a team needing a bridge SS will address that need in the off season not the Deadline. the meat of which teams need what was not important..

I would think depending on how well Aybar is performing, that we could net a return similar to what the A's got for Zobrist. May be not quite as good, but something relatively similar.

Not any real news, but it's noteworthy that the talks haven't died down. It's just too bad we can't get Dave Stewart to jump in on any Inciarte talks.

Seems like there's a good chance Inciarte gets moved, but we're going at it the right way. Just sit back and wait. If this many teams are interested, someone will eventually overpay.

Yup...We spun Miller when the pitchers started coming off of the board. I'm assuming we're waiting on teams that miss out on the OF's as well. That might be when the better offers come in.

This is where Inciarte's versatility helps us. Upton, Cespedes, Gordon, Fowler, and Span are all still out there unsigned. Any team who targets those guys but misses may come calling with a better offer that they're not quite ready to give us at this point with the hopes of bringing in a FA. SF and NYM are potential options here, though SF's farm system is trash and we don't match up extremely well with NYM.

So now the Braves are in the business of trading for players to trade them? At some point they are going to have to have major league players on the roster. Prospects are cool. Parades are cooler.

From what I have gathered by reading a lot of Cubs-stuff (which means it's all 2nd and 3rd person info/speculation):

- Cubs wanted a big trade including Teheran
- That couldn't be worked out, so the Cubs offered Soler for Inciarte straight up
- Braves wanted Soler plus 2 more guys for Inciarte, Cubs said no
- One of the "other" guys is speculated to be Almora since he would be blocked by Inciarte

Almora is a top 100 guy that should be very good in CF (with an accurate 60 arm), but there are still questions about his bat and aggressive approach at the plate. As a 21 year old in AA he put up a .272/.327/.400 slash line in about 450 PAs. He was 3 years younger than average for that league.

In return for Inciarte the Braves likely want Soler, plus a guy that should be pretty much be Inciarte in 2-3 years, plus one more piece. No speculation on who that 3rd piece may be, but I would be shocked if it's anyone in the Cubs' top 10.

So what would be an acceptable return? Soler plus Almora? Soler plus Almora plus Contreras? Or would you rather see a package built around McKinney instead of Soler?
