International News, Rumor and Signing Thread

Signing Lazarito is a headache this team can do without. So many red flags for a freaking 16 year old. This kid strikes me more as a franchise killer than a savior. The Braves have done all they can, and now we see was a potential set of problems surroud this diva.

Let it go.

I agree to an extent. They have their beliefs and what they want. We need to apologize to them and let them know that the organization was just operating in 'Normal' business practices. That if the family wishes to join him, they can make that happen within whatever rules might govern such events. Offer the kid your best offer and let him know what he can be apart of in the coming years. If he takes the offer then great, if not.. don't jump through hoops to get him..

I don't think this has anything to do with Lazarito himself... more just the people around him. From what little that has been reported of him, he does not sound like a "diva"... I think this is an unfair statement when we don't really know what what went on.

It is likely that those same advisors will continue to be "around him." This is certainly a red flag.

Yeah. The timing of all of this is really weird and suspicious and I doubt we'll ever know the true story. The fact that he had new representation within the day is odd. His father speaking out saying that they're safe. The reports of the death threat. It's all a jumbled mess involving a bunch of people whose motivations we can't guess. Lazarito is the 16 year old in this situation, I doubt he's driving any of these events with all the adults around him trying to make things go the way they want.

Agreed. I'll be honest, rico, I don't know where you're coming from on that. What are the red flags around him? It does sound like there's an issue with his representative, and that may end up being reason enough for us to stay away, but 'diva'? Franchise killer? Good gosh, man.

I'm a little confused on the camp invite...the kid is 16...wouldn't it be implied that his parents would come

We invited the agent, who we assumed would be the guardian on the trip. At least, that's the word coming from 'a major league source.' My guess is that it is usually the agent who would accompany the player on a trip like that.

Well, start at the beginning. He agreed to, or instigated having his nickname copyrighted for marketing purposes. Speaks to someone who, at this early stage, might be inclined to put his interests over the team's. Not a guarantee, of course, but the first red flag. The second is, that at his age, these "handlers"
aren't going away any time soon. The third is how little baseball he's played in the last two years -- a key time for development, you have to say. Combine that with the amount required to sign him, and as I said he sounds MORE LIKE a franchise killer than a savior. If they move heaven and earth to sign him, I hope to God I'm wrong.

The Braves have taken an honest run at him, and his dad refused to let him come to camp. Fine. Leave the offer on the table, but make your priorities the July signing hoard.

Another odd thing, I swear I recall O'Brien or Bowman tweeting that the Braves were very impressed with him after his workout.

They were. That was a workout in the Dominican Republic like a month ago. This would have been a visit to Spring Training, like a visitation weekend for college recruiting.

Ah ok. Guess they were definitely impressed then if they wanted him to come back for another visit.
