Former Brave Adam LaRoche retiring.

A somewhat similar situation that makes me side with the team:

I play bball a couple of times a month and one guy brings his 2 kids, who run around wild while we play, often suddenly darting into the court. We play full court and it's often a wild free-for-all, fast-break game with the ball flying hard everywhere. I asked the father if he was worried that one if his kids might get hurt but he just shrugged it off. While I do worry for the kids, I also fear that I'll be the one who runs over one or gets injured myself trying to avoid it.

The kids are great, cute as can be, and I would feel terrible if I hurt one of them. I won't say anything again to the father but I think he's being a little irresponsible to his kids and his bball mates. He's putting us both at unnecessary risk. If he's gonna bring his kids he should also bring someone to control them.

Lot of douchebag comments in regards to this situation. I love when other people try to tell others what's best for their kid. Kudos to Adam.

Yes suggesting the kid be in school instead of in a professional baseball clubhouse is quite the douchebag stance.

If you say "I don't value education that highly," you're kinda stupid.

It's unlikely that he gets no schooling during the season. I would assume it's more of the home schooling type. But even if it were so, as long as he is doing well and progressing as he should during the time he spends in school, then it doesn't matter.

And it is indeed very presumptuous for you to assume you know what's better for his kid than he does.

I mean, it's not just my intuition that him being in school more than one season out the year is better.

Simply becoming a parent does not mean whatever you do to your child is what's best for them.

White Sox better hope this kid doesn't become a good big leaguer in the future as they will have no shot at signing him.

And again, you presume that you know what's better for his son? I find that "quite silly."

Yea. Roach has plenty of money to hire a personal teacher for the kid. I just think he's super into baseball. I am not against Laroche bringing his kid, but if some folks on the team have issue then that's something Kenny Williams had to take an action on.

I think it's fairly obvious what's better for kids in general. Education and being around other kids is pretty important.

I'm letting my son smoke cigs at 10...don't try and tell me what's best for him!

Well there is a normal example. JEEZ.

Again who says he isn't getting an education? I consider it likely that he has some sort of personal teacher during the season. His son being around other kids is just plain subjective, as to whether it's good for him or not. But even still, he's 14 not 5. I'm sure he's spent plenty of time in school with other kids.

Also, don't forget that Adam himself has ADD, so it's likely his son could have this well, which could be a reason for such an odd educational arrangement.

Obviously it isn't comparable, just making the point that parents can make the wrong call for their child, and simply being a parent doesn't mean you know what's best for them, especially when it goes against science/studies.

Developing with/learning from/being around your peers as a child is pretty objectively important. Saying "he can learn more in a clubhouse than in a classroom" is still pretty silly, and for a child, pretty much just not true.

Seems the truth has came out today or at least a better idea of what actually happened. No real surprise that Williams seems to be the bad guy here. Hopefully that grievance is filed.

yeah, keeping your kid out of school and at your work place ALL THE TIME and saying he will learn more in the clubhouse than school etc is something to be praised.

smh

He gets plenty of schooling from what I have read.

What most are praising is someone choosing to be with their child over 13M which is awesome as hell.

Give me a break with this work place BS I see posted everywhere. The baseball field is hardly you're average workplace. And LaRoche was told by the organization when he signed that it wouldn't be problem.
