We will find out soon enough. I have a feeling he either turns into Dave Winfield, or the contact issues scouts are worried about cause him to struggle and he becomes the next Jorge Soler.

I'm glad Atlanta did not do that rumored trade.

True. So do you go with somebody like Lewis who's ceiling is through the roof or take somebody like Senzel who is a reliable and safe pick?

Lewis. 10 times out of 10. IMO, you should go for the upside. Playing it safe in the draft is what got us one of the worst farm systems in baseball.

While I agree with taking Lewis over Senzel, I don't think it is fair at all to compare Senzel to the terrible first round picks the Braves made towards the end of the round the last decade or so. Senzel may not have David Wright potential, but he is still a very good prospect.

The Senzel comparison I've seen multiple times is Bill Mueller. I just can't see us taking him, not when this front office has gone back to drafting for upside.

I don't understand that comparison considering Senzel is already 25 lbs heavier than Mueller's listed 175. And it's not like Mueller was some bush league ballplayer anyways.

Taking a look at Mueller's career slash line of .291/.373/.425 (.797 OPS) with a few peak seasons with an OPS well over .800 (including a .938 mark in his age 32 season), I don't think getting a Bill Mueller would be a bad scenario at all. He was an average or better defender at 2B/3B and his career OPS is higher than any player that has spent any significant time on the Braves roster since Chipper retired other than JUpton and Freeman. Those 2 "sluggers" only have him beat by at 20-30 points of OPS, and either play a much less demanding position (Freeman), or are pretty bad defensively (Upton).

If I were guaranteed Senzel would turn into a career .800 OPS guy with average or better defense at 3B I wouldn't hesitate to grab that player at #3.

I still think Senzel is the pick. He could be the player Prado was for us. .280 BA .350 OBP 10-15 HR. Starts at 3B with versatility to fill in at 2B/SS. I dont know if he has ever played OF but he has the arm for RF. We really need a RH bat too.

I wasn't sold on Senzel before but now I'm rethinking him myself and thinking either him or Lewis would be my pick. I still like Perez a lot too and if I took a HS kid that high it would likely be him.

I really like Prado, but I wouldn't draft him #3 overall.

Yeah I am with you. I would be okay if whoever we pick at #3 turned out as well as Prado but I want to shoot for a higher upside. Also why I prefer HS players. They are still young enough that they could breakout. A lot of the good college players were not highly rated coming out of high school.

Wouldn't mind Senzel, but I think Lewis is there when we pick. Still a good chance that the 1st two picks are Puk and Groome.

Lewis could be starting for us Opening Day 2017 or be called up in June. Another reason you'd want a mlb ready college bat.

Ozzie, Swanny, Lewie, Mallex, Freeman, ooooooh yes.

I know we love high school kids and always have. But if Lewis falls to 3 it should be a no doubter.

Agreed, I want Lewis - but if not him I think I want one of the HS arms (Groome/Pint) or the SS.

I'm OK taking on more risk Groome vs Senzel for higher upside at #3.

It looks like the consensus around here has moved to a top 3 of Groome, Senzel and Lewis, with the discussion mainly being how to rank them.
