Trade Deadline: What are you willing to do?

I think with the injuries to the Dodger rotation, they may be looking to make a splash...possibly for JT. They lost Greinke, and have a bunch of question marks after Kershaw.

Do they have the positional studs to make it happen in the minors?

Only person they have position wise that might interest us is Alex Verdugo, who is just inside the top 50 on the midseason updates. It would probably have to be a combo of pitching and Verdugo for us to get value from the Dodgers. They have a highly ranked 1B prospect in Bellinger (#24 on BA) as well. Something like Jose DeLeon and Verdugo for Julio would be a solid deal for us I think, but it wouldn't net us the big bat we hope for really. Verdugo is very similar to what I hope/think Acuna turns into, 15ish homer guy with good contact skills and solid defense, capable of playing CF.

Both those guys are a few years away from being ready. I doubt Coppi is trading for prospect that far away. even if they are good. I just don't see a Dodgers/Braves match even though they have traded 3 times in the last year.

Bellinger 1B\OF was right in the mid 20's on BA's top 100 midseason list... Noting the 30 hr potential. OF transition would be the ?

Not to fond on Puig.. at least not for JT. Also, I don't think the Dodgers know what they are going to do. Kershaw is a ? himself. and if they lose him, then why even trade for anyone, because they can't win without him.

The Dodgers will go for it because they have a chance. They aren't a FO that weighs out the odds. They want a WS and will go after it. JT gives them a strong reliable pitcher to slot in for a long time. Wood\Ryu\Mcarthy are all huge ?s. They could really use JT. For next year as well...

DeLeon is in AAA and Verdugo is in AA, how the heck are they a few years from being ready?

With all the money the Dodgers have spent, it's crazy how much they're lacking still. They desperately need pitching.

I was going off memory and forgot Deleon is 23 (I think).. He probably would be ready next year. Verdugo is most likely 2018.. which I still find it hard to believe Coppi wanting to wait for a prospect that long.

that said, I like more what the Dodgers can give us over the Rangers. And there is history with the Braves and Dodgers matching up.

Verdugo is LHed and not the type of bat the Braves need to add to the OF. I don't think the Dodgers have what it takes to get Julio.

Yeah, I don't like anything with the Rangers really, agree with you there 100%.

I think you are shortchanging Verdugo's timeline, he already has 320 ABs at AA this year and is posting an OPS just north of .800. He's still got a fair bit of development to go for sure, but I'd imagine he hits AAA before the end of the year. He should be ready by mid to late 2017 rather than 2018. He's basically on the same timeline as Swanson and Albies. Either way I find the idea Copi wouldn't be willing to trade for a prospect that would be ready in 2018 both weird and frightening.

And yeah, DeLeon is 23 (turning 24 in August).

Why would you even want Pederson?

The only reason I wouldn't is because he's a lefty. Other than that, why wouldn't you want him, for LF or RF? He's not really a CF, so he would likely excel in RF or LF defensively. Has a lot of power, some speed, has cut his Ks a good deal this year from last. Other than being a lefty, he's checks every box.

With all of the no Julio trade talk, I think it'd have to be a block buster. We know Seager and Urias are not coming back.

I'd take Puig, but they'd have to take Markakis and Olivera back.

They don't have that impact bat to deal and to get us to move someone IMO. Especially a RH bat.

Maybe Bellinger + Barnes + Cucamonga +

I don't see it. I think for the Dodgers to get Julio they need a third team who has some ready to go guys and will take some of their farther away guys. Like the Pads with Margot and Renfroe, maybe Meyers.

JT + Olivera + Markakis for Meyers, Renfroe and Norris......Dodgers get JT and take on money....Pads get Diaz, Alverez, Heredia and Estevez.

Oh I dunno, maybe because he has a career batting avg of .220ish and strikes out in over 25% of his ABs? He's a player I wouldn't having just to see if the contact skills come around (even though I don't see that happening), but I'm sure as hell not giving up Julio for someone like him.

I mean, he was a rookie last year...BA is up 25 points, SO% down 3+ points, SLG% up, ISO up. He was an almost 3 fWAR player his rookie year.

I'd consider it, maybe a little more from the LA side. I'm not sure why you're treating Pederson like some scrub. I think he has solid potential.

I don't consider him a scrub, he's a 2.5-3 WAR guy right now. I just find it baffling that someone would be willing to move Julio in a deal that has Pederson as the main piece, particularly given all the surplus value and we need to win the trade going away talk from you and others. Julio easily has way more surplus value over the length of his contract versus what Pederson brings.

Pederson is an okay piece, but his poor contact skills are the exact opposite of what our offense needs IMO. And I see no signs this year that he's suddenly going to start hitting .270+.
