Ah Andruw. I remember all the whining about how he never would adjust and wouldn't hit the ball to the opposite field, etc.

Its a shame he never figured out how to hit.
 
This kid runs a 4.5 down the line to 1B as well. That's not bad for a 12 year old whose body hasn't developed any yet.

That guy was so good. Between his age 20 season and his age 30 season, Andruw hit 18, 31, 26, 36, 34, 35, 36, 29, 51, 41, and 26 home runs. Combine that with the possibility that he may have been the greatest defensive outfielder of all time.

And that went along with WAR values of 3.3, 7.4, 7.1, 8.2, 4.9, 6.6, 4.9, 3.2, 6.7, 5.6, 3.0. They cut him loose at exactly the right time, as he never did anything after his age 30 season.

Andruw is underrated because he turned out to be a merely great player instead of the next Willie Mays like he was touted to be. The Braves would trade everything in the farm for Andruw right now.

Sadly what plagues him is what plagued Murphy. If Andruws career was just done after age 30 due to injury he would of had a much better shot. Right or wrong the fast decline and lingering on does nothing but hurt him. But he played at a HOF level while with the Braves. There is no doubt about that.

Yeah, I get that, but he still should be in. IMO the greatest defensive player ever, at any position.

Agreed, hopefully someday down the line defense will get appreciated by the voters enough that he gets in Ozzie Smith style. If he had been able to post 2 more above average seasons and hit 500 HRs he's probably a shoo in.
