Braves Acquire Freddy Garcia from Orioles

Nah, I don't have an issue with depth moves at all. But, the Braves probably have several players in the org that could pitch better. Heck, trade for a Haren type (who has been on fire)

I thought about that too, but he is due ~$3.47MM for the remainder of the season and Rizzo would probably rather pay him another $13 million than trade him to us.

I would love to get Haren. Good idea.

Freddy the last 2 years has dropped a 5.20 and 5.77 ERA, I believe we have about 73 pitchers in the minors who could do the same or better.

Besides Haren, who else is a "Haren type" that we could potentially get?

Yet again, this does not prevent us from making any other moves. We gave up cash for him. Not even a prospect. It makes sense for insurance and I trust him more than Gilmartin.

Not sure on contract status or waivers, but:

Correia
Floyd
Saunders
Vargas
Bedard

I agree those are fair options, but I think we still need to find out Beachy's status first before fully replacing him. By all indications, we didn't give up anything to get Garcia and we have no obligation to use him.

One of the reasons he was acquired is because the Braves are serious about giving some rest to their young starters, Wood, Teheran and Minor and with Beachy's uncertain status they wanted somebody they could plug in there if they had to, that's the reason for the acquisition.

If we see him pitching in the majors, we either clinched or two of our starters went down.
Concur with the first qualifier (clinched). Garcia has been doing well in AAA and face it, if we have clinched, with the schedule remaining after Cleveland we will be facing some AAA lineups.

Yeah after we clinch, call him up, give our guys some rest.

Garcia sucks, but from here on out, its prevent injuries and forfeit the rest of the games vs Mets

We need someone who can eat up some innings to give our young guys a rest. That means that you do not ruin the arms of our prospects. I get the move. He is probably not a bad guy to have around to help some guys. He has put up good numbers in his career. I do agree with picking up Haren but would Washington trade him to us?

Maybe a depth move. We have better pitchers in the minors. If we need someone to make a start or two, both Hale and Poveda would be better than Garcia.

My thoughts exactly. We'd be stupid to go with Garcia over Poveda or Hale for that matter. Nothing wrong with extra depth in AAA.
