I would prefer Bregman. Would fit the Braves contention timeline better.

Davis is a guy I've wanted for a couple of years, but I don't think we have the at bats to entice him in our current configuration. I worry about Ruggiano's ability to play CF.

The guy I'd like to target is Desmond Jennings. Still relatively young, plays solid CF, good platoon splits against LHP, from Alabama and may want to stay in the South.
 
Bregman would bring back an Archer or Sale. The Astros won't be giving him up for Teheran.

Teheran and Inciarte? Might be on to something there if the Astros still need a CFer.

Ruggiano would see limited time in CF, so he should be able to handle a few games out there.

Good call on Jennings though. He is another good target as a RHed 4th OFer.

I'd still give Bregman a surplus value of a prospect top 10 hitter. Which was around 73 million last year. Sale comes in a little above that around 84. Now Julio is interesting due to the fact he has a history of outperforming his FIP. So it would depend on how the Astros view him. The 3 WAR player than Fangraphs does or the 4 WAR player that bRef does. Or somewhere in between? The range in surplus value would be pretty large. Anywhere from 59 to 90.
 
Have we heard anything from Coppy or Hart on the Rodriguez signing or Alex Jackson trade?

These guys love to spin. I find it odd we have not heard anything from them on either acquisition.

Dang, this would have been a nice add. I hope the plan B is other free agent options more so than the trade market.

Think the Braves are looking to invest in moderately priced lotto tickets with a chance at a nice return at the deadline. Dickey, Colon, and Volquez would all be good bets to be flipped if they are having nice years. We saw the pitching price this season too...

I'm pretty confident the Astros don't view him as elite and worth giving up Bregman.

Considering the fact that they were able to keep Volquez discussions out of the media, I wouldn't be surprised to find out that we're sniffing around on Brett Anderson/Scott Feldman/Brandon Morrow/Fister types too. All three could probably signed to one year "make-good" deals - particularly Anderson and Morrow. Give them split-contracts and attainable bonuses based on games started. If you somehow got a healthy first half out of Anderson, you could probably get something pretty good for him at the deadline.

I understand chasing Volquez since they thought they could get him for a 2 year deal, but can't imagine they'd be on Hammel/Nova/Hill at this point considering each of them should get 3 years.

With 4 spots in the rotation already set, why would they be looking to sign Volquez? Would the plan be to start the season without a single spot open for competition among the young guys?

Maybe they're targeting a trade for a hitter and plan on using someone like Wisler as part of the centerpiece. Only Folty is guaranteed a rotation spot among our young pitchers.
 
Andrew McCutchen looks likely to be moved per a few writers. Pitt has touched base with Nats, and Rangers on him. Rosenthal calls him likely to be dealt.
